Declaring that It was his under standing that the state would pay damages for any Injury done by one of its wards, Newman Itemized hie claim against the state aa fol lows: "I pair shoes, $6; 2 pair allk aocka, at 60 cents each, $1; 1 pair corduroy panta, $3; 1 pair new garters, BO cents; board for con victs three meals, $4.50; board of four men brought by convicts, $6; total, $21. The claim will bo pre cnted in the usual form to the next leglBlnture, Kozer declared, And It will rest with that body Whether the bill will be paid. Presentation of the expense claim by Newman has created wide Interest hero because of the atory told by Murray with reference to the formal statement he gave the New Era farmer telling how the capo was planned and executed. According to Murray's story told several days ago, he gave the state ment to Newman with the under standing; that It would be sold by him to newspapers so that he -would suffer no financial loss by tho visit and expense of Murray and hlB pals, Ellsworth Kelly and James Villos. According to ru mors here, Newman first sold the statement to a Portland newspap er for $200 and has since added several hundred more dollars to his profits by selling various stories of his experience to other news papers. Aug. 27 The yacht Blols. fluxshlp of the San Francis co yachting club, homeward bound from Tahnltl after racing rrom Han Francisco, was seized here last night after 80 bottles of liquor were found aboard. When tho yacht put in at Hono lulu today Commander John PIver declared he had 12 bottles aboard. These were seized after customs Inspectors found he had no per mit to possess liquor.
