Waterman, regular republican designee for mayor, eaid at his first rally last night. Dr. Nichols Murray Uutlor, president of Co lumbia university, delivered the notification speech. Citizens of New York, he said, have been com pelled to haiif their heads in shame because of the volcanic eruptions of Ignorance, vulgarity and mis representation from the city hall. Dr. Butler took a shot at a bivouac of blue laws. Mr. Waterman said: -Petty graft rolling up to $600,000 has been taken from push cart ped dlers, that more than $8,000,000 worth of city contracts has been let without bidding and that mur ders had increased from 240 in 1 91 S to 333 in 1924." Senator Walker, Brooklyn, fre quently referred to William Ran dolph Hearst, Mayor Ilylan's back er. Tho Tammany candidate pledg ed himself to abide by the results of the primaries and called the man who didn't, "yellow" and a "quitter."
