Three weeks ago the chorus, made up of boys ranging from 8 to 22 years old set out from Los Angeles on a cross country concert tour. Defalcations of ad Vance agents for the tour are said to be responsible for the financial plight of the chorus. Two weeks ago, In Albuquerque, N. M-, an advance agent fled with 150 proceeds from concerte. Two ew agents were hired. They dis appeared from Kanaos City, to gether with funds advanced them for expenses. A two night? concert had been scheduled for Kansas City but when the chorus arrived it was learned the advance agents had departed without making arrange ments for the concerts. The chorus le directed by Dr. II B. K. Whitney, formerly pastor of the Hilyaid Congregational church Beattle, Wash. Financial relief may come to Ight, however, for the Independ ince Avenue Christian church, one it the largest In the city, le to stage 1 concert by the organization. Bert Slecman, Portland, was lected president; David Huff, Portland, secretary-treasurer; S. B. Davidson, Salem, vice-president. Members of the oxecutive board are Thomas Hunt of Portland, S B. Davidson of Salem, Richard Witty of Marehfield and J. D. Bee ton of Meilford. The council was taken Into the state federation as the first offi cial act of the convention. ARE AT WON EASTERN COAST New York, Aug. 25 A new Chi nese war broke out early today In various cities, a few hours after the burial of Lee Kue Ylng, "mayor" of New York's Chinatown who was largely responsible for the recent truce between the Hip Sing and On Leong tongs. One On Leong tongman was shot and kill ed here and a Hip Sing member and possibly others were wound ed In Boston some 24 hours after Washington police had thwarted a plot to kill three officials of the Hip- Sing tong. Thirty three Chi nese were arrested In Washing ton. In Chicago a resident of the On Leong section was shot and killed. A resident of the Hip Sing section and two others were arrested. Tips to the police that led to opium j raids is presumed to be the motive! of the shooting. The body of a res-! taurant cook was found in a New York Chinatown cellar with three bullet wounds. The two assassins escaped, leaving a revolver .near the body. A few hours previously a shoot ing affray threw Boston's China town Into panic. One Chinese was taken to a hospital seriously wound ed. Joseph Crowley, a bystander was hit by stray shots and ellght ly Injured. ' The trouble in Washington was regarded by the police there as between Hip Sing factions. Jesse M Austin, farmer, residing 3 miles east of here, committed suicide by shooting himeel! Sunday night. II health and worry over sickness in his family were believed responsi ble for the act. The shooting took place follow ing a quarrel with other members of the family over a proposed trip to the coast, according to reports. Grabbing his shotgun, Mr. Austin ald good-bye and rushed into the orchard. A shot was heard soon after and. relatives found his body with the top of the head blo-yn off. No inquest would be held, Cor nor Face decided. Mr. Austin was 61 years old.
