PAGE EIGHT THE CAPITAL JOURNAL, SALEM, OREGON" Los Angelea, Cal., Aug. 18 Jack Eempsey threw his weight behind Floyd Fltzsinimons' efforts to ob tain the right to stage a Dempsey- Willa fight for tho heavyweight championship with two declara tions made here late Wednesday. The first was: "Fltzflimmons has made me a better offer than any likely to come from any other promoter and he has my signature to a contract." The second statement, given with an air of finality that seemed to eliminate all chance of Tex Illck- ard staging tho bout in New York was brief and unqualified. "I will not fight In New York tate." A third remark concerning state menus by Jack Kearns that he still had managerial power over Demp ey'a engagements and that he In tended to sign for a Dempscy "Wills fight, also was brief and unqualified. It was: Til do my own bikhhik. Let Kearns sign if he wants to, but what good will U do mm t in the application herein and con tinuing to connect with existing lines In California, would be Justl fled," the declaration said. "It believes that the applicant (the Central Pacific) should not be given permission to believe a forty mile extension from Klamath Falls southeasterly If the granting of the application would adversely affect the consideration of future application of the right to build another line of railroad southeast erly from Klamath Falls, Ore., to a connection with existing lines In California. L The Oregon Trunk I desires a bearing upon the ap plication In this proceeding."
