By Delegates "PranUfest" night, accirdtnp to the Oregon delegates was among the most enjoyable of the recent 7th annual convention of the national Federation of Bust neca and Professional Woman's clubs which was heid In Portland, Mnine, July 13 to 18th. "Prank feet" night originated at the na tional convention of the federa tion in 1923 and proved such a euccees that it has become a reg ular institution and occupies a Tcry important part on the con vention program. As the title im nlles it is an evening devoted en tirely to fun, and affords each delegation an opportunity of put ting on somo original stunt or en paging in some high jinks. The affair was held this year in the huge Palace ballroom at Old Or chards, the Coney Island of Port land, Maine, which was filled to overflowing with delegations, all of them In the distinctive and col orful apparel which had eo mark ed them during the convention, j The stunt put on by the Oregon j group will long be remembered hy the visiting delegates from all over the United States and Cana da. Twelve colorful Pendleton In dian blankets were given away, ono from each club in the Oregon etato federation, namely, Astoria, Coos Bay, Corvallis, Eugene, Hood River, Klamath Falls, Med ford, Portland, The Dalles, Roseburg, Salem and the Portland Women'u Advertising club, to the lucky win ncrs in a free raffle. Three beau tiful Pendleton Indian shawls were also presented, one to Miss Adella Prichard, retiring national president, a member of the Port land, Oregon, club, one to Mies Olive Joy Wright, the new na tional president, whose home is in Cleveland, Ohio, and a third to MUM Mary Arlete Penny, the gen eral chairman of the Portland, Maine, convention. Dr. Mary Pur Vine of Salem on behalf of the eItibs in the Oregon Federation of Business and Professional Wo men's clubs, presented the chawls to Mlfrs Prichard and Miss Wright while Mrs. Josephine Forney did the honors to Mies Penny. Miss Martha Gasch, correspond ing secretary of the Oregon fed eration, and a member of the Portland Business and Profes sional Women 'c club, served as chairman of the convention coni mltteo for Oregon and had charge of the stunt. Iie of Salem, Mm. M. B. Uilmore of Eugene, Mies Ruth Johnson of Astoria, Mies Vera McKay of Coos Bay, Miss Roea B. Parrott of Rose burg, Mrs. Gert-'ude E. Jewett and children, Richard, Allan and ll.il, of Central Point are visiting Su Jem relatives this week. Accom panied by Mrs. Marie Putnam and her children, David and lieka Rie, they left for a tour of the Ore gon beaches yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Jewctt are also being enter tained by Mr. and Mrs. D. K. ' Officers and employes of the United States National bank held a delightful picnic Tuesday eve ning at Hager'e grove. Swimming, baseball and dancing were en joyablo diversions of the evening durli.g which time a delicious picnic supper was served. Those attending the affair were Mr. and Mrs. David Eyre, David Eyre, Jr., and Rovena Eyre, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Lamport, Mr. and Mrs. Linn Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Townsend, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Page and the Misses Ruth Edwards, Mamie Homyer, Clara Oehler, Bessie Smith and the Meters. Lester Sandc, Elton Thompson, Clark Lee, Karl Weng er and Lawrence Fisher. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Johnson re turned the first of the week from an' enjoyable three day trip to Crater Lake and the Oregon caves Mr, and Mrs. James Nesbit mo tored to Portland recently for a few days' visit with friends. They will return to Salem this week end. After a delightful vacation at Agato Beach Mrs. W. E. Burns and small daughter, Ann Reed, have returned to their home in the city. K Mr. and Mrs. John Orr and daughter, Charlotte, and Mr. Orr'e mother Mrs. Charlotte Orr are en joying a short sojourn at Seaside. They made the trip by motor. Mrs. D. S. Adams has returned to her home in Salem after an ex tended visit with friends and rel atives In Iowa. Mies Salome Socolofjsky left Sunday morning for an extended trip into Canada. She expects to be gone for several weeks, visit ing in Victoria, Vancouver, and other Canadian cities, and stop ping in Seattle for a few days be fore returning to Salem. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Basey left this morning for Nye Beach, where they will be domiciled in the4r summer home. They expect to be away from the city for sev eral weeks. The women's evangelistic pray er meeting was held this morn ing at the home of Mrs. W. C. Young on north Capitol street. Mica Latollette was the leader. Dr. and Mrs. L. G. Altman wero obliged to postpone indefi nitely their contemplated trip to Los Angeles, through unavoid able circumstances. The doctor can be found in hie office as us ual. Mr. and Mrs. George L. Pearce of Minneapolis, Minnesota, wh'lt. attending the Knight Templar conclave at Seattle this week : :c making a brief visit with their brother, Robert Pearce and their niece, Mrs. George E. Halvorsen. Members of the W. F. M. S. of the First Method .6 1 church are asking all women interested to meet at the home of Mrs. A. A. Lee tomorrow afternoon to fill a Christmas box to be sent to Afri ca and a box containing hospital supplies to be sent to China. Toys, combs, mirrors, lca-l pencils and old truelln are needed. -) Mr. andi-Mre. Philip Gilbert, formerly of Salem, and who now make their home In St. Paul, Minnesota, will return to Salem in the near future for a visit with friends. Mr. Gilbert le practicing law in St. Paul. Salem People Depart For Europe Mr. and Mrs. Allan Jones de parted last week end for New York from where they will sail for France. While in Europe they will visit the many interesting old cities of France, England and Italy. The greatest part of their time abroad will be spent lu Eng land and during their sojourn in France Mr. Jones will renew ac quaintances with friends he made during the war. They plan to re turn to Salem the latter part of September. Prior to their departure tho Misses Eugenia and Charlotte Zeiber entertained with a delight ful dinner in their honor. They wore the inspiration for several other charming affairs last week. Mies Helen Meyer will motor to Lakeview the first of naxt week with her sister, Mra. E. 0. Messner, where she will spend the fall and winter. Mlfs Meyer is well known in Salem having grad uated from Salem high school with the class of 1924. Mrs. W. B. Johnson entertain ed as her house guests during the past week Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Healy and daughter, Evelyn of San Francisco. A delightful trip was taken by the group last week end when they motored up the Columbia river highway and over the Mt. Hood loop. Those enjoy ing the trip were Mr. and Mrs. Healy and Evelyn Healy, Miss Le Ua Johnson, Dr. and Mrs. W. A Johnson and Mrs. W. B. Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Healy and their daughter left Tuesday morning for their home In the south. En route they plan to stop at Crater Lake and at Klamath Falls. Mrs. George F. Rodgers and Miea Margaret Rodgers are home from n vacation trip Into eastern Washington. Franklin B. Launcr left yes terday afternoon for Corvallis where he will spend the remaind er of the week. Roberts, before an appreciative audience lat week end in Portland gave an or gan recital on tho new three man ual pipe organ which has juet recently been installed In the Roee City Methodist church. Thie organ ie unusually largo and Is considered ono of the finest In Portland. Dr. Richard Avieon, formerly pastor of the First Methodiet Episcopal church in this city rnd now pa6tor of First M E church at Forest Grove, extended an invita tion to Professor Roberts recent ly to give an organ recital on the new organ in that church the last Sunday in August. Several people from Salem aro planning on at tending the recital. Owing to the death of Mrs. Stalger, the picnic planned for thie evening by tho Sons of Vet erans auxiliary, has been post poned until next Tuesday when an all afternoon picnic and pot luck supper at 6:30 o'clock will be served. Mrs. Staiger is related to several members of the Sons of Veterans auxiliary. Mr. and Mrs. V. B. Johnson have ae their guests for several weeks Mr. and Mra. N. E.. Healy and daughter, Evelyn of San Fran clsco, A trip over the Columbia river highway and the Mt. Hood loop was enjoyed by the two fam ilies last week end. Ernest Harrison ar. receiving the congratulations of their many friends over the birth of a son on July 28th to be named Ernest Clay. The child le the first grandchili! of Mr. and i Mrs. H. Clay Taylor and Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Harrison of this city. ' Miss Alice Applegate and brother, Teddy of Portland, are the house guesta of their aunts, tho Misses Lillian and Pearl Ap plegate, who reside on Cheniek eta fctreet. Friends of Miss Edna Flcks, a former member of the Salem high school faculty, have received news from htr that she is touring Eu rope during the summer months. Mies Ficks has been teaching in the New York city high schools for tho laet four years. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Rellly have as their guests for several weeks Mr. and Mrs. D. B. FInkenbiuer of Conrad, Montana. Trofessor and Mrs. W. E. Kirk left this morning for a six weeks' absence in Idaho.
