J. C. Pice, 41, prominent PJugene shoe merchant, died Friday ut a local hospital following an automobile accident on the McKenzie high way near Springfield several hours earlier. Mr. Price was returning from a party at the E. C. Simmons summer home on the McKenzie when the accident occurred. His sedan skidded in the loose gravel at tho sharp turn in the highway leading into Springfiejd and over turned. Mrs. Simmons, who was riding with Mr. Price, wus cut and bruised, but w:.s reported to l-e resting easily at her homo today. Mr. Price was apparently not badly injured, it was eaid. William Hoppe waa held to the grand Jury today after a hearing before Jus tice of the Peace Coad on a charge of possession of a still. Hoppe wae arrested a couplo of months ago by state agents who found a still made from a milk can on his premises. Mrs. Albert Burelbach and child ren, Mr. and Mrs. Oren Kellogg and daughter, Mr. and. TED MACOMBER PLEADS GUILTY; Dallas, July 25 After a Justice court Jury had failed to agree on a verdict In the case of the state of Oregon ve Ted Macomber on charge of sale of intoxicating liquor Macomber entered a plea of guilty Friday. He waa sentenced by Justice of the Peace Coad to pay fine of $150. It had been planned to retry the case today. Macomber waa arrested June 11 by State Officer McDonald after he had sent two youths to him to purchase liquor. They secured two plnta. In his defense, Ma comber admitted securing the li quor with the boys, but said It was a cache left by a man who had gone to California and that he had given It to the boys after they had had several drlnka. He denied making a sale. I C. W. Pogue officiated at the butcher shop for J. E. Barber last week while Mr. Barber was mak ing arrangements for the funeral of Lis mother, which waa held Monday afternoon. Mrs. S. A committee was formed to take charge of the next work of the Marion county health demonstra tion, the date of which has not yet been set. The response of the parents In the flrat demonstration which was given to the children under school age was most gratifying. All those who took advantage of this unusual opportunity to have their babies examined by the very best specialists the country af fords, with no cost to themselves, were glad that they did so, while those who found ailmenta, slight or otherwise, of which they had no knowledge, were more than grateful. As this institution will be permanently located in Salem. it vill be possible for those who intend to remedy any of the de fects found, to test the treatments from time to tiniw.
