REMODELED FOR
STORE PURPOSES

Liberty theater Into a store build
Ing will begin Monday. Workmen
have been removing the seats, or
gan and other theater equipment
for the past two days, and will
finish this week.
The new store, which will be one
of the Cosmopolitan chain, will be
the sixth to be established In the
Willamette valley, where the chain
operates. It will handle a genera
line of goods, Including groceries
and other staples. The character
ts tic. feature of the Cosmopolitan
stores Is the price of goods, the
highest being one dollar for any
one arttcle.
Judge Peter . D'Arcy of Salem
built the Liberty theater 15 years
ago. It has been among the fore
most theaters in the city, pict'ires
being shown there practically from
the time the moving picture Indus
try started until this week.
The floor will be raised at the rear
end of the building, making it lev
el for use as a store. Shelves and
other fixtures will be constructed
for use by the Cosmopolitan pro
prletors. The front of the place
will be entirely remodelled, win
dows for display of goods being
built.
The store Is expected to be ready
for business by the middle of
August.

(AP) Mre. Coolidge barely escap
ed being run down by a motor
cycle this morning during a walk
about Swampscott a leap to the
side of the road saving her.
She was returning to White Court
and had just turned into the pri
vate driveway when four members
of the stnto constabulary on motor
cycles turned into the lano behind
her. .. Driving at a fast clip, ac
cording to witnesses, the motor
cycle officers wero behind her at
most before anyone was aware.
The grinding of brakes nnd a
yell by James. Haley, her eecret
service man gave Mrs. Coolidge her
only warning and as she Jumped
to one side of the road the lead
ing machine shot between her and
Haley.
The motorcycle detachment,
which was coming to White Court
to escort the president to Cam
bridge, proceeded to the summer
White House without stopping.
