Scopes was told by the superintendent there yesterday that her aorvlces would not be re quired when she declined to say that she did not believe In the theory of evolution. Scopes Is to go on trial here July 10 for violating the Tennes ee anti-evolution law. Miss Scopes has taught mathe matics at Paducah two years. A member of the school board Is quoted as saying that Miss Scopes' presence in the high school faculty might embarrass the pub lic school system. The young wo man is now attending the Univer sity of Kentucky. Information was awaited here today as to the outcome of a con ference of leading defense attor neys held In New York last night. Neal of Knoxvllle; Dudley Field Malone and Arthur Garfield Hays, the last named be ing an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, which Is aid ing Scopes' defense. Paris, July 2. (A. P;) The French government Is preparing to make an announcement upon the American debt question wi ta in a few days, It will probably be limited to scarcely more than naming the mission to go to Was. a ington. French dbt negotiations whh the United States will be kept strictly apart from those wr.h Great Britain. There is much caution here be cause of the apparent conviction both in the American state de partment and in the French for eign office that any public men tion of the terms of payment by either erne would complicate nego tiations and might even defeat their purposes. DR. BROWN CONTRASTS FRANCE AND AMERICA The people of France are ahead of Americans In matters pertain ing to art and music, and behind Americans in matters of business and morality, Dr. Walter Brown, head of the Marlon County Child Health Demonstration told the Sa lem Rotary club at lta luncheon Wednesday. Speaking on the sub- Jeot "A Yankee Doctor in France," Dr. Brown spoke of numerous cus toms which he had observed while there working under the Jurisdic tion of the Rockefeller Founda tion curbing the spread of tuber culosis In the country Immediately after tho war. The climate In Brittany and most of northern France, he said, Is al most identical with that of Oregon. One detail noticed by the speak er was lack of bathing facilities throughout the country. "If you ever go across, he said, "be sure and get enough baths before you go to last you all the time you're there." Each large city has an external revenue system of its own, he stat ed. At the walls of Paris every In coming person is stopped and his goods searched. A heavy duty must be paid on certain products sold in the. city. Every outgoing automobile is examined for the amount of gasoline In the tank. If it carries more coming In than go ing out, duty must be paid on the excess. There are 26,000 Americans In Paris 1 at the present time, Dr. Brown declared. 4)- i 3 "The best worker bn the randi "Yes, sir, that old Ford hasn't soldiered a day since I took to using this new Zerolene F' for Fords. "And work I Say, she takes hills on high Bhe never could negotiate before, and un less I'm crazy she travels quite a bit farther on a gallon of gasoline." Fords all up and down the Pacific Coast are picking up and surprising those owners who "tried out" Zerolene "F" for Fords when it was first put on the market, a little over a year ago, and have been sticking to it ever since. Zerolene "F" for Fords is made by the Standard Oil Company's patented vacuum process. It lubricates all the bearing sur faces where oil is needed, especially the wrist-pin bearings and the upper half of the cylinder walls which are frequently "oil starved" when an unsuitable lubricant is used. The result is improved gasoline mile age.quickerstartingand increased freedom from carbon and other motor troubles. Yet Zerolene "F" for Fords costs not more, but less than most of the special Ford oils now on the market. A Ford is an A-l transportation invest ment. Protect your investment with proper lubrication. STANDARD OIL COMPANY (California) "Feeds those oil-starved Fords" If Moscow, July 2. (A. P.) For elgn Minister Tchltcherin has is sued a statement asserting that although the sympathies of the Russians are on the side of the Chinese In their struggle for com plete liberation from foreign dom ination, the Soviet's policy ie to avoid any action which could be regarded as intervention in Chi na's Internal affairs. The statement was prompted by the Increasing attacks upon soviet Russia in the English newspapers in connection with the present situation In China, coupled with the recent speech of Loughborousn by Lord Girkenbead, which is re garded here as official sanction for these attacks. "Sympathy does not mean in tervention," lays Tchltcherin in refuting statement that Rubs la Is interested In prolonging the Btatc of chaos in China and desires to assume the role of protector." But never, "-" has one, before Palmolive, brought comparable results to the skin. Palmolive Soap is a masterpiece, based on 60 years of soap study. It is a scientific creation, made to bring new beauty to the skin. Made to keep schoolgirl complexions. Its unique results have led millions to adopt it, Now it is made in five countries, to supply the world-wide demand. It is made in France, because French women find in this their ideal of a soap. Soft, velvety complexions are many times as common as they were before Palmolive came. fThcn don't accept ordinary "olive and palm" soaps, with artificial color, and often super-fatted. i Palmolive costs 10 cents no more than the price of most ordinary soaps. But that is due So enormous production. Palmolive has become the leading toilet soap of the world. The only two soaps we know that fairly compare with it cost 25. cents per cake. This warning is in your interest There is a way to keep youthful complexions, and mul titudes have found it But that way is not a mere "olive and palm" soap. It is found in Palmolive alone. Note the unnatural "too green" color of Palmolive imitators. What does that suggest? Men 'don't paint nature to improve it Olive and palm oils nothing else give Palmolive its delicate, natural color. Olive and palm oils no other fats whatsoever are used in Palmolive. No "super-fatting," no "super-anything" the only secret to Palmolive is its blending", that is judged one of the world's priceless beauty 6ecrets. And Let no one convince you for your own sake that any ordinary type of "olive and palm" Soap can bring you Palmolive results. Wash, launder, cleanse with any soap you wish. But when beauty is at stake take care. ,Use Palmolive, nature's formula to "Keep That Schoolgirl Complexion." IN PARIS French women are discarding French toapt for Palmolive Palmolive is today one of the two greatest idling toilet soaps in France. Parisian beau ties are happy to pay almost twice as much for a cake of Palmolive as American women pay. And, in many cases, three times as much as for their own French soaps. Re member this when tempted by costly French soaps, or by "French" claims for soaps. Note carefully the name and wrapper. Palmolive is ne ver sold un wrapped. IWJ
