Ladd, senior eenator from North Dako ta awaited today the arrival of hie body from Baltimore where he died yesterday and the arrival of six sons and daughter from va rious cities. It Js expected, however, that funeral cervices will be held here tomorrow, after which the body will be placed In a vault to wait until Mre. Ladd ia able to make the trip to North Dakota. Mre. Ladd was fteriouely affect ed by her husband' death. The senator's death wae neld due to kidney trouble which arose as a complication of neuritis and rheumatism for which he was be ing treated at the hospital Poughkeepsle, N. Y., June 23 (By Associated Press) The eight oared crew of the Naval Academy again rules the intercollegiate seas as the result of the annual regatta on tho HudHon,. but not by such an overwhelming mnrgin that the admirals have anything particular ly to brag about. Eight broad backed, brawny midshipmen brought tho varsity rowing championship back enst laat evening by conquering Wash ington, two time champions, In a thrilling,' spectacular four mile duel, but at the finish they were o.:ly three quartera of a length ahead and losing distance with every stroke. Washington's trans-continontal queat for a third straight triumph something that no crew has gain ed on tho Hudson since Cornell did It In 1922 ended In failure but "Rusty" Callow's Huskies lost no prestige. They had the power, the drive and strokes to match those of the Navy, but they lost because they were out-maneuvered, out-guessed at the critical stage of the race. The Navy owes Its brilliant tri umph, In the final analysis, more tj superior strategy than anything else. It was the sudden spurt of the sailors, an unexpected and dar Ing dash at the three mile mark that won the race for them. They Jumped Into a lead of a length and a quarter before Washington real ized what was up, a margin which saved the day for the midshipmen. This sudden drive took most of the wind out of the Navy's sails. "tout the momentum was enough to carry it on to victory In spite of Washington's final rally. That final bid of the Huskies to retain their title was beautiful to see, but It was an epilogue. Had there been another 100 yards, another story might have been told. The victory put the Navy one up on Washington In the battle these rivals have staged In the past few years. They had met twice before, the midshipmen rowing to tri umph In 2322, but losing in 1923 to the far westerners. Annr.polis was not represented last year when Washington won again. Thus the ''outsiders' crews par-! ticipating in the regatta by invi tation, continue their domination of the "big four" of the intercolle giate rowing association Cornell, Syracuse, Columbia and Pennsyl vania. To rub it In a trifle. Wis consin, finishing fast after a bad start, brought up In third place yesterday, after ..finishing second a year ago. The west has no apology to offer here. Behind the Badgers came Penn sylvania, Cornell, Syracuse and Co lumbia In order. Except for the Quakers, who were themselves out trying to keep pace with Washing ton and the Navy for the first mile and a half, none of the other east ern crewe menaced the pace setters. From the start to finish It was a private matter between the Hus kies and sallorB. Washington packed up for home today with one trophy In her bag, however. The Huskies romped off with the Junior varsity honors In tho first of the two mile prelimin ary races after which Syracuse capture! the freshmen event.
