STIFF CONTEST
AT
The lcaguo-leadlner Salom Sena
tora nro to go to Htllsboro tomor
row afternoon In the Interstate lea
gue serins iv ho re they ore to clash
with the olrong team there. The
locals lout their first game of the
season last week to the Lucken
bach ship company, due to the stel
lar twirling of Rudy Kallio, ship
builder pi ichor.
The two strong Camas and West
Linn nines are to cross bats at
Camas and the Luckenbach nine Is
to meet the Albany team at Albany.
All of theso games give promise
oC being hard fought. The Albany
team, which entered the league for
their initial appearance last week,
has added considerable strength
to the entire league.
The hardest fought game of the
series tomorrow Is the Salem-Hllls-boro
struggle The liillsboro team
lost to the locals In an earlier meet
ins but they are now all hopped up
to find that it Is possible to defeat
the Senators. They are surely ex
pecting to take the Senators into
camp if they can. For that rea
son "Frisco" Edwards, manager of
the locals has urged all ot the
rooters that possibly can to attend
the game.
A win for the HULsboro nine
would make the race a tight strug
gle. The locals would still be lead
lng the league, however, with seven
games won and two lost for a per
cent ug of .778 whilo the liillsboro
nine would be close behind with
a ven games won and three lost for
a percentage of .700. The game
will start at 2:30.
Edwards Is planning on starting
Barham on the mound for the lo
cals. Ha r ham has not been as ef
fective In the last few games but
has been working hard to get Into
chape and promises to send several
of his opponents to the bench. Ed
wards will be behind the bat.

planet, Mr. Holioway will bring the
detachment not only of a mid-Western
churchman but of an Englishman
to his critical observation of the Holly
wood scene. For Mr. Holioway was
born at Shrewsbury on the t Welsh
border and after some years in gov
erbmcntal service in London came to
this country in 1914. He completed
his education at the University of Chi
cago and lias since been in the min

Though married and with three
charming children, he declares that the
winning oi live skyrocket Contest
is the most exciting event of his life;
He has never been to California, and
in fact, has seen almost nothing of
America.
Because he is more interested in life
than in death and because he hods that
novelists can tell him much about liv

preach sermons upon popular novels
and that is why his attention was
called to "The Skyrocket" "a book

Should he be declared Ineligible
as lien, commissioner he would be
again avalluble as state senator.
He is one ot the democratic mem
bers of the senate and would have
to'orercome republican opposition.
Senator Fisk is also a democrat -n
a republican strong hold and will
navu a strong opposition in the
November election It he is nomi

Zimmerman OnnOaerl.
Peter Zimmerman will doubtless
again be a candidate, for Zimmer
man, although ot mongrel politics.
Is a tighter and has many friends
among the farmers. Though elect
ed as a republican he has boon
close to the nop-partisans and sup
ported LaFollette for president,
ills opposition will come not only
from his own county, but from
othor quarters In the state.
Senator Fred J. Tooze will be
out of it. He has changed hla resi
dence from Clackamas to Marion
county, having become editor of
the Salem Statesman, and because
of his short incidence would not
be loked upon as a proper candi
date tor MaWon.
Senator W. J. H. Clark will lot
be back In the legislature, having
accepted tho guperintendency of
the. adult school for the blind, a
staU institution In Portland.
Another democrat whose term
expires Is Tvlor ot Umatilla, not
likely to run again because of his
age. Senator Strayer of Baker,
another democrat, will probably
be a candidate if he doesn t run
for the United States senate.
All CO members of the lower
house of the legislature must be
elected next year.
