dell, war finance corporation mem
ber and former republican leader
of the house, has suggested 15 per
cent in a aeries of speeches in the
- midwest on tax reform.
Treasury officials are said to fa
vor a reduction of at leaet 20 per
cent.
Chairman Green disagrees with
the opinion of Senator Smoot which
Is concurred in President Coolldge
that It might be well for the fed-
oral government to abandon Its In
heritance tax. The senate finance

Plans for the Salem Elks lodge
to take a prominent part In tne
national convcptlon activities in
Portland the week of July 13-18
are vell under way and will cul

the grand parade on July 16. Of

for the occasion fully three
fourths have been actually signed
for by memkers of the order ani
it appears that those who Are
wafting until tho eleventh hour
to sign up, may be disappointed in
not being able to secure one.
Tbe Elks band has also lust re
ceived new unirorms and will
make a very striking appearance
as they lead the Salem delegation
and the American Legion drum

the occasion. In fact, It Is assureitl
that Salem will make a showieg
