WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17, 1925" THE CAPITAL JOURNAL, SALEM, OREGON PAGE THREE PEP TOSSERS IN -7 The Woodmen of the World base ball team tightened their hold on third place and came within a game of tying for aecond place In the Sundown league aeries when they defeated the Portland Electric Power team on the Oxford dia mond last night by a score of 11 to 7. The Woodmen now havo a percentage of .500. The Pulp and Panor nine are leading the league with a percentage of .1000 and the Eagles are in second position with .606. The PEP nine has not yet won a game in the series. The game was featured with costly errors on both sides, and In which the WOW used three hurlers to stop a rally attempted by the Power team. Dee started In the box for the Woodmen, but was relieved In the first frame. He was relieved by Bustck, and Inter by Walker who finished the game. Merrit, pitcher for the PEP team, was relieved in the latter part of the game by Bolton. Rick man was behind he bat for the TVoodmen, Travis did the receiving for the PEP nine. The Valley Motor team and the American Legion nines will clash for honors in the twilight league aeries on the Oxford park diamond this e'enlng. The Valley Motor team is in the cellar position with one win and four defeats while the Legion nine is headed for the with 5 wins and no losses. The Legionnaires are playing good con sistent ball and are the favorites to romp off with the victory. The only man the Valley Motor team has Is Proctor. Proctor Is the whole team and it might be pos sible that with him in the box the Legion team will be unable to olve his delivery. FILM MAGNATE INSURES LIFE FOR $6,500,000 New York, June 17. Win. Fox, president of the Fox Film corpora tion, has increased his life insur ance to $0,500,000 from $3,000,000, says the Spectator, an Insurance publication . The new policy, which la under written by sixteen companies, makes Fox the second largest in surance rick in the world. The largest known policy holder is Rod man Wanamnker, with insurance aggregating $7,500,000. The Howell Prairie team defeat ed the Pulp and Paper nine for the second time 7 to 6. Adv. 10 MARCH EARLY The Cherrlan auto caravan that will take local boosters to Port land to participate in the "Merryk ana" parade ot the Rose Festival will leave Salem promptly at 8 o'clock Friday morning from the chamber of r.onimcrce rooms, with emphasis upon the promptness, de clares King Bing J. C. Perry. The caravan will be led by a state traf fic officer. Portland lieomiuarters of the Salem organization will be in the Imperial hotel, where accommoda tions have bfien reserved for both the men and their ladies. The Cherrians will form their line in the Portland parade on the north oide of Taylor street, headiug on Chapman street at 12:30 o'clock. The last drill of the organiza tion is scheduled for tonight when members are instructed to meet at the city hail at 7:15 p. m. No float or stunts are planned for this year but it ia planned to offer a fine exhibition of drilling and marching. Because of the absence of the Cherrian band which 1b to give a concert In Rilvorton this evening the drill will be led tonight by the American Legion fife and drum corps. Jones of the Log Cabin garage in the Siskiyou mountains, was bound over to the grand jury Mon day under the new state law pro hibiting the transporting of con cealed weapons in automobiles. Jones, with a companion, was ar rested for a violation of the traf fic laws and a high-powered pis tol was found on the Beat between them. According to the district at torney 's office, Jones admitted the ownership of the gun. The arrest was the first In this country under the new law. which compels the Justice of the peace to bind the defendant to the grand jury. The circuit court cannot parole or suspend sentence, under the law and the governor cannot grant a pardon. It is reported to be the only law on the Oregon statute books denying the gov ernor this privilege. The law provides that arrest for the first offense Is a misdemeanor and two arrests constitute a felony. New Cornorations.
