Five, hundred troops were oa their way today for duty in the Cape Breton coal fields &b the re sult of armed clashes but ween trlking coal miners and British Empire Steel corporation police at New Waterford. These clashes yesterday resulted In the death of one miner, the serious wounding of another and Injuries to two score. Fresh Disorders were ported early today in New Aber deen, a euuurb of Glace Buy. It was reported that the com pany'a food shops at mines 12 and 14 had been cleaned out by mob of miners. It was also re ported, although confirmation wan lacking, that tlie warenouso at number 14 and the offices at num bers 15 and 12 were abluze with no water available. In clashes yesterday for posses- lion of the New Waterford power house several hundred roundB of ammunition were ured. After the fighting, police took refuge in the jail at New Waterford and reports of plans of miners to raid It were beard. The power plaut was captured from minor pickets by a surprise attack at dawn ana recaptured uy the miners at noon. William Dav ie, a miner and father of nine children, was killed and Gilbert Watson Berlously wounded. Thj power plant is the strategic point of the colliery syetem. A large detail of provincial po llco departed for Sydney on s regular train several hours before the troop trains left Halifax. 6EISY URGED DRAINAGE DISTRICT IN SOUTHEAST Mayor Glesy held a conference with members of the county court today urging that action bo taken In the matter of the annlicution for establishment of a drainage district In the oouthcastern part of the city and on contigious lands. The court line bad the matter under advisement since early in the year. Msmiicrs of the court expressed the belief today that some definite action would be tak en in the matter in the next few days. Medford, June 11 With eight special trains arriving at frequent Intervals the Southern Pacific sta tion ewarmlng with khaki-clad sol diers, and the streets crowded with ammunition and equipment trucks, Medford took on the appearance today on an armed camp In war time, with the opening of the state encampment of the Oregon nation al guard at Camp Jackson, a few miles north of the city. Accord ing to officers in charge, the en train men t of nearly 2500 guards men la being carried out approxi mately on scheduled time, and by tomorrow everything should be In readiness to start the two weeks program of intensive training. Mayor Allcnderfer -of Medford will deliver an addrene of welcome today to the stato guardsmen on behalf of the citizens of Medford. Last to arrive on train number 8, were the II 6th engineer com pany, Portland; Company H, 162 Infantry, Portlan; Company K of Tillamook, an dthe newly formed unit, Company C, from Grants Pass. General George A, White, com manding officer of the encamp ment, has eatabltahed brigade' head quarters on a knoll overlooking the entire military reservation, where he can maintain a personal supervision ove rthe troops which under his direction as adjutant general, have won their way to the first place among the national guard organizations of the United States. The general and his staff offi cers will arrive shortly after noon and will proceed Immediately to I brigado headquarters, after being welcomed by a committee of Med fords leading citizens.
