load limit of trucks from 22,000 to
20,000 pounds, and the maximum
load for nny one axle to 14,400
pounds, will not bncome effectivo

Charitable Beauests Untaxed.
Only one lav was enacted that
affects importantly the state treas
ury department. This is the act
romoving Inheritance tax from
estates that are bequeathed to
charitable purposes.
Several of the new laws pertain
to the state labor department. One
of these affects the plumbing
trade, and provides that all plumb,
ors must register with the state

A present statute is amended

must establish a monthly pay-day.
An amendment is made to the

Timber Sales Authorized.
The state land board, under a
new act, is authorized to sell the
timber from state lands. Under

Fire Control Objective.
Several acts relating to the state
forestry dciiartmcnt carried the
emergency clause, but two im
portant ones are effective today.
One of these amends the compul
sory patrol law by changing the
definition of "forest land" so that
it includes everything that con
tuins enough forest debris to fur
ther the spread of fire. This makes
it possible for the stnte forester
to place cut-over lund and land
of a similar character on the tax
rolls In order that It shall bear Its
share of the protection costs. Ex
emptions for patrol costs are now
limited to resident owners for not
to exceed ltio acres if more than
half of it lies within one mile of
the owner's permanent address.
Another act gives the bourd of
forestry authority to acquire by
gift or donation in the name of
the state forest or brush-covered
land which is suitable fur the
growing for forests or for park
purposes. This lund Is forever re
served from sale, but small iso
lated tracts may be exchanged for
the purpose of blocking holdings
for administrative purposes. Reve
nues derived from the sale of prod.
