Wittenberg, It is said, was on his way to Hood River on his motorcycle, with side car, and in tended to bring a friend back for tho Alpha Psi nelta picnic, which took piaco Saturday, doing north on the Pacific highway he flash od through Aurora so rapidly that authorities there did not try to over, take him, but telephoned ahead and notified a state traffic officer ttiat he was coming. Just outside Aurora Wittenberg overtook a heavy truck. As he at tempted to pass it the truck turn cd out. The side car on tight under the truck, was wrenched loose from the motorcycle, nnd was com pletely demolished. Wittenberg nimseir was thrown from the ma chine, struck the pavement, slid for several yards, but was miracu lously unhurt except for u few scratches and a slight injury to one Knee, his machine in said to have jumped completely over him and struck, upside down in tho ditch. An injury to the speedo meter caused it to become fixed where It had been before the ac cident took place. At this juncture the state traffic officer appeared on the scene. Ex amining the motorcycle, he found that tho speedometer registered 68 miles an hour. He took tho speedo motor iront the machine and stored it away in a box as ovlden?e. Appearing in court at Aurora Wittenberg: was told that 6S miles an hour Is a littte more than twice as much ns the law allows on the Pacific highway.
