appointed a special committee to
Investigate possibility of opening
the street. The members of the
commute are Aldermen Uancy,
Herrick and Simeral.
It is pointed out by the mayor
that the opening of the street
would be parllculnrly beneficial
during Btate fair week. It would
afford delivery and commercial
vehicles an opportunity to get to
their destinations on tho fair
grounds without driving In the
traffic of pedestrians and pleas

woven around a situation arising
when Elmer, a college student,

tempts to head Elmer off from

one after another of the charac
ters in the Py as he makes one
maneuver after another.
The play Is packed with hilar
ious situations and amusing inci
dents. While the other romance-!

cop. and Miss Ofinertty are stag
ing a rolickhig love affair all

Governor Pierce has written
Governor Hunt of Arizona ex
pressing a desire to join the latter
in a movement to have the United
States turn ovtr to the state all
of the remaining public lands
within the boundaries of thc states.
Governor I:unt was inspired . to
make the suggestion by the an
nounced trip of a sub-committee of
the United States senate commit
tee on public tends for the investi
gation of these lands, and Gov
ernor Pierce says that when thisj
sub-committee reaches Oregon be
will see that tho state land board

benofit of tho schools.
"I would much prefer to have
all proceds from such lands go in
to our school fund," writes Pierce.
"Keeping the forest reserves and
Indian lands off the tax rolls Is
