According to tne reports the woman approaches a prospective signer with some such question as: "Do you want to put tbe auto Lu eases out of business?" When the affirmative answer Is given, it ie said, the woman says, "Well, sign this petition," explaining that the petition would glvo Ihe people a chance to pass such a law. . As a matter 01 fact, It was ex plained, the law is actually on the statute books and will be effective May IS. The petitions are design ed to suspend the law by Invok ing the referendum. If the peti tions ere sufficiently supplied with signatures the law will be inoperative until the next elec tion, a year and a halt from now. Accordingly those who sign with the expectation of placing a lust tax on the automobile busses and commercial trucks are defeat ing their own purpose by signing the petitions. Yesterday's Scores.
