Three men were lost to the de partment of philosophy. Dr. Ern est S. Bates, Kerby Miller and Fritx Marti. Mr. Marti asked last winter to be released, his resigna tion to take effect next fa". Dr. Bates and Mr. Miller were not re appointed. In place of the thrc men, the boarl authorized the ap pointment of two new teachers to till the vacamios. "A saving ot $5000 was made in the original estimate of the outlay f.ir a site for a student union building. "The university officials expect to make a saving on the summer session of next year, a student fees wtre raised from $12.50 to $15. The program given covered a wide field, rang ing from an aria from "The Mes siah to negro spirituals and Sa moa n love songs. Always a favorite with Salem rmd other valley town audiences. Mrs. Rahn won more laurels in her concert this morning. There is a vivacity and a freshness about her voice nnd her Interpretation that is always pleasing. Seven Chinese Mother Goose rhymes were particularly well received, ue were the Siwnoan group "Un (er My Heart I Carried You." and 'The Road of the Loving Heart.' The program opened with Glor t'ani's "Caro Mio Ben," and Han-(U-ls "And Ho Shall Freed Hin Flocks." There were four other groups with Curran's popular "Rain"; a Russian number, "Slow, Horses, Slow." and Currant "Dawn," the outstanding offer ings. As a lart encore Mrs. Rahn gave Katie Mops "Floral Dance." Paul Petri, -formerly ot Salem, nnd now a number ot the music faculty at Oregon Agricultural college, played Mrs. Rahn's accom ranimeute. PROVISIONS OF NEW SCHOOL LAW CITED County Superintendent Fulker son calla attention to clerks and directors of school districts of thi first class to new provisions in the budget law passed by the Inst leg islature. The new law exempts district of that clrtss from oper ations of the local budget law due to the fact that many of these districts are so sparsely populated it is Impossible to comply with all of tho provisions of the act.
