T. Greer and Mrs. P. A. Elkar entertatne at a formal spring dance. Tbe Japaneeo garden let ting waa enhanced by the doiena and dozena of wicker basket, fernerlee and . hupre Jardiniere filled with purple iris, pink tulips and bridal wreath that filled ev ery nook and cranny. The orches tra waa literally banked with Iris and tulips. Tbe soft lights filter ing1 through the ceiling of pink atreamera and huge Japanese urn brellaa aprcad to their full width qnly eeenieil to accentuate the beauty of the frocks and gowne worn by the dance. The room adjoining tbe main ball room was attractively and comfortably transformed Into a large living room. Floor lamps, large chaira and dlvana. Oriental rugs, secured an effect that was moat attractive. Following the dance the guests were taken to the Gray Belle where Mrs. Hamilton. Mrs. Greer and Mra. Eiker were hostesses at a charming aupper party. Here the pastel color plan waa carried out with blue Iris, dainty color ed tullpa and bridal wreath plac ed In crystal holders. Blue and yellow and pink candlea were need In crystal holders. A hundred prominent Salem people were the guests at the af fair which was one of the lovliest of the entire year. Mrs. Marian Derby was elect ed president of the Past Matrons' association at a meeting held at the home of Mrs. James Godfrey on Friday evening. Mre. Amos Vacs was chosen vice president and Mrs. Cordelia Cupper waa re elected secretary. Mrs. Derby succeeds Mrs. W. Carlton Smith aa president of the association. Mrs. E. T. Barnes Is the guest In Seattle of her daughter, Mrs. Wlllard Seton Kaufman. Mrs. Barnes will be with Mrs. Kauf man until she recovers from a recent Injury to her knee. a a a Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Clifford spent the week end at Neskowln, Aa their guests they entertained Prof, and Mrs. J. A. Batcbellor and their four children of Corval- lla. In a program which will be riven In the high school auditor ium tonight at eight o'clock, Sa lem people will have the oppor tunity to hear the musical num- bera which won tour first prizes, a number of second and thirds for the Salem high school when they entered the state high school music contest at Forest Grove re cently. D Perry Evans of Portland, made a brief talk on the plans tor the San Francisco convention. Wright on the Pacific highway was the seen, of a most pleasant gathering on Saturday evening when ceventy five of their friends met to honor Mr. and Mrs. Howard Mulkey (Eunice Robinson) who returned recently from a trip to southern Califor nia. Mr. and Mrs. Mulkey were married at the Wright home on March 31. Tba affair was ako the last spring dance which will be given at the Wright home. Hofer yesterday when she entertained tfie Monday bridge club at bridge and tea in ber home. Lovely yellow tulips were used In baskets and bowls about the living rooms of the Hofer home. Special guests of Mra. Hofer and the club were Mrs. David Eyre. Mrs. Hal D. Patton, Mrs. William Bell and Mra. Holllster D. MrGuire of Oakland, Califor nia. The guest prize was won by Mrs. Eyre. Several weeks ago the organiza tion took an extended tour up the Columbia river and Into wash lngton, taking two weeka for the trip and being pronounced a de cided attraction wherever the club appeared. Tomorrow evening's program will consist, aside from ensemble numbers, of instrumental and vo cal solos, and a stunt entitled "Dutch Love," by Miss Trleta Wcnger and Miss Aldeane Smith. Miss Sadie Jo Read will give an entertaining reading. Miss Helen Sellg, well known locally for her violin playing, will play several attractive numbers on her Inetru- ment. Misa Fay Sparks and Miss Gladys Mclntyre, both of whom graduated from the Willamette school of music this year, will sing 6olos.
