tary Hoover has decided that the

regulatee In the radio field will
require the calling of a nation
al radio conference about the end
of September.
Particularly have the differenc
es of fitting in new radio sta
tions given rise to euggeations
for a new methor of allocation
and dividing time. Until the con
ference ha assembled, however,
no important changee of govern
mental policy may be expected.

Ftre Chief August Silberstlne an
nounced today that an attempt
was made Sunday nigbt. to burn
the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic
convent here. There are ap
proximately 300 girls and forty
nuns In the convent.
Paper soaked in fuel oil was
found in the rafters of the wood-
house, a few feet from the main
convent building. The paper had
been ignited but the fire was ex
tinguished.

Douglas, Ariz., April 22 Relief

ons made homeless and destitute
by the conflagration which yester
day wipe! out a largo portion of
the mining town of Cananea, 50

boundary, were undor way today
under the direction of the Red
Cross.
More than 200 homes were wip
ed out by the flames which broke
out In and gutted the business dis
trict. One pers.tn, a Chinese mer
chant, was knmvn to have lost his
life, and officials were trying to
confirm renorts that a Mexican
family of three tierlshed. The prop
city loss is estimated at $200,000,
three fourths of which was cover
ed by insurance.

Havre De Grace, Md., April 21
Earl Sande, America's famous
jockey, today rode hie first race
since he was injured at Saratoga
last summer and won with Sara
zen, Mrs. W. K. Vanderbilt'a great
gelding. It was Sarazen's first
race of the year too.
Sarazen took the Newark hand)
cap, a six furlong dash for three-
year-olds in the time of 1:11 flat,
breaking the track record by 1-5
second. He took the lead in the
stretch and won easily by two
lengths: Big Blaze was second and
Tex the Vlnter third. Two dollar
mutuals on Sarazen paid (3.30,
$2.70 and $2.30.

Interest In the development of
tha flax growing and spinning in
dustry in the Willamette valley
was manifested by Ralph Budd,
president of the Great Northern
Railroad company, during the few
minutes that he was In Salem yes
terday afternoon. Mr. Budd wis
her only the few minutes that the
Oregon Electric train stopped at
the depot.
Mr. Budd 'il he was not fam
iliar with the ef.'orts now being
made here to establish the flax In
dustry, but the questions he ask
ed about It indicated that he knew
considerable, about flax In general.
Ho wanted to know about the acre
age and whether the flax grown
here was of the long-fibre variety
Mr. Budd arrived on the 4 o'
clock train from the south. Word
had been received earlier In the
day that he and his party would
come from Corvallis by automobile
but their plan were changed be
cause of a desire t look over Ore
gon Electric properties en route.
Mr. Budd will return here Thurs
day of this week and expects to
spend several hours in the city.
He exnects to arrive about noon.
The railway president expressed
himse.f optimistically about bus-1
ness conditions in general through
out th norUiwest. With him here
esterdny were A. J. Davidson of
Portland, general freight agent,
and J. M. Bal1ln?all, assistant gen
eral freight agent.

Dr. Virgil H. Moon, pathologist
of the Indiana university school of
modicr.e conducted the autoposy
Mias Oberholtzer died last week
from poison self-administered fol
lowing alleged attacks by Stephen
son. Stephenson, Earl Klinck and
Earl Gentry, indicted on first de
cree murder charges in connection
with Miss Oherholtzer's death arc
held without bond. They were ar
rested yesterday.

DALLAS MAN LOSES IN SUIT
Dallas, Or., April 22. A verdict
was found for the plaintiff for
$306 by a jury Monday night In
the case of O. E. Llerman of Hills
boro vs. C. J. Crook of Dallas. The
case grew out of the sale or trade
about four years ago when Mr.
Crook secured a community gro
cery store in Dallas and other
property at Hilleboro.
