MONDAY, APRIL 20, 1925. .HE CAPITAL JOURNAL, SALEM, OREGON PAGE THREE 1ST JUSTICE KILLED Information was received here yesterday ot the accidental death In Spokane Saturday night of Judge George W. Belt of that city, formerly a Judge of the su perior court in Spokane. He wan an uncle of Justice Harry H. Belt and a brother In law of Justice George H. Burnett, both of the Oregon supreme court, having been a brother of the late Mrs. Burnett. The late Mrs. Ed Weller of Salem was a niece of Judge Belt. Judge Belt was born in Salem on the old Belt homestead at Union and Church streets Aug ust 13, 1854. He was graduated from Willamette university ad was admitted to the bar in Salem about 1884. From 1886 to 1S85 he was district attorney of tltii- dlslrict, and in 188S wo.it to Spo kane where be rose to prumi- aence in the law profession. Judge Belt leaves -in his Imme diate family his widow and four children. The children are War ren Belt of Seattle, Alfre I iljit of Boise. Mrs. Raymond Balls'it of Tacoma and Mrs. Willard Talk Ington ot Spokane. Judge Belt was instantly kill ed when he was struck jy a bi cycle ridden by James Klernen, a Dost office mee'senger, who w. blinded by a heavy rainfall. Judge and Mrs. Belt were crossing i street at the time in front of their home. Mrs. Belt also was kno.-ked down but not seriously injured Mt. Angel, Or., April 20. (Spe cial. "The Maid and the Golden Slipper.' musical version of childhood's favorite fairytale, was the operetta presented at the Woodburn high school auditorium by the grade achool pupils, Friday evening. April 17. The four scenes were delightfully entertaining, tho ex cellent work of the pupils evincing r.irefnl ami capable training. DM CLUB HEAD IS INVOLVED IN VICE RING CASE One more was added to the roup of men accused of contribut ing to the delinquency of a miuor girl when 'Frisco -Edwards, man ager ot the Silem Senators base ball club, was taken into custody Saturday. Edwards pleaded not guilty, waived preliminary hear ing and JK-as bound over to ine grand jury. He furnished bail. Edwards, according to me com Dlaining witness, a 14-year-olo girl, was a member ot an automo bile nartv on wh'ch liquor was given to her. WILL MEET HERE An Older Boys' conference, with delegates from Marion, Polk and Linn counties, will be held in ba leni next Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The conference is to be held under the auspices of the lo cal Y. M. C. A. Approximately 150 boys are expected. Frank Moran, president of the Morun Bible school, near Seattle. will be the main speaker of the conference. "I consider him to be the oustanding boys' man ot the Pacific coast," says B. J. Kimber, Marion county Y. M. C. A. secre tary, whose headquarters are in Salem, and tf"ho ts the main mov ing element ot the conference. Moran was the central figure ot a similar conference held a year ago and is being returned by urgent request of the boys, according to Kimber. Registration will begin at 5 o'clock Friday afternoon. A ban quet will be staged at 6 o'clock at one of the local churches. Moran will address the boys at the ban quet on the subject, "Building on the Square. A 'series of private conference will begin Saturday morning, to gether with boys' discussions. Moran will give short speech In the torenoon on "The Vocation of Boy.; At noon Saturday 160 business men of Salem will take the boys indilrdually to lunch. Attention of the conference Saturday after- noon win be devoted to the pnysl cal side of a boy's life. There will be conferences, discussions and another short address by Moran. 'There will be various ath letie- contests and games In the Y. M. C. A. gymnasium. The program Saturday night will be devoted to the social side of boys' life.
