FATHER OF AUTO
Kokomo. Ind., Aprfl 14. El
wood Haynea, 68, who In 1894 In
vented the "honieless" carriage, Is
dead at his home here, a victim of
Influenza. Mr. Haynes, who had
never fully recovered from a pre
vious attack of the disease waa ill
but a few days. Funeral arrange
ments have not been made.
Mr. Haynea Buffered an attack
of Influenxa while on a trip
through the southern atutes and
on the advice of a physician whom
be had consulted, he returned
borne. Heurt disease, with which
be long has been afflicted also
contributed to his death.
Few friends knew of the serious
Illness of the pioneer automobile
manufacturer who also gained In
ternational reputation as a scient
ist and metallurgist and his death
last night was a shock to all thai
knew him. His widow, son and
daughter were at his bedside when
death came.

SHIFTS TO TEXAS
Chicago, April 14. Investiga
tion of the deith of Mi's. Knima
Nelson McCliutock, whose ex
humed body was found to contain
mercury poison, has shifted tem
porarily to Galveston, Texas, from
where in 1909 a physician wuh
summoned to attend her in Uuy
vicw, Texas, when sho was attack
ed by her flnul Illness.
Galveston authorities have been
asked to question Dr. William C.
Fisher, who was practicing there
in 1909, IT he attended Mrs. Mc
Cllntock. Physicians who attend
ed her after she returned to Chi
cago to die have said they pre
scribed no mercury.
The coroner's jury later this
week will resume its Inquiry Into
the death of William AlcClfntock.

Soon alter Min Trask left the
drug store, the druggist noticed

department. Scores of policemen
were dispatched to the neighbor
hood and started a bouse to bouse
canvas in an attempt to locate
the purchaser before she should
use the poison. After a two-hour
Bearch they located a friend of
Mies Trask, who bad accompanied
her to the pharmacy.

cine last night but that she felt
as though she should wait until
