with the team, went to the Ore
eon Electric depot from which the
train left.
Standing on the rear platform
of the L'uit car ns the train pull
ed out. the squad was greeted with
cheer a and yells from every hand.
Pennants waved, cameras click
ed, players smiled, and the train,
gathering speed, passed out of sight
taking with It the team which
makes the logest trip of any of
the many teams which are to vie
for the championship of the
United States In basketball.
The locals will arrive in Chica
go Sunday, and leave the follow
ing Sunday.

An entirely new program of

land visited over the week-end
with Mr. Baker's parents, E. C.
Baker and wife.
Mrs. Andrew Baker of Mill City
called on E. C. Baker, Saturday
night, on her way to Salem.
The fire department answered a
call fihortly after noon Saturday
from the residence of William An
derson. It was a small roof fire
starting from soot burning in the
chimney and was soon extinguish
ed with practically no loss.
John Gower and con, Leonard,
of Newberg, drove to Turner, Sun
day, to viist with his son, Gerald,
and wife and to call on his old
friend, E. C. Baker, who is recov
ering from a Biege of the flu.
Dr. Guilford B. Gollemore of
Yamhill' visited Sunday in Turner j

mills In Canada and one In New
York state. He has been in the
business for the past 25 years and

linen mills in the valley.

murder In Coos county and sen
tunced to be hanped. were ent to
the lower court yesterday by,
Arthur S. Benson, supreme court
clerk. The supreme court affirm
ed ths lower court and it is now
necessary to send the two men
buck to the Coos county seat to be
re-enlenced to death. It Is ex
pected that this will be done In a
few days.
