Mr. Weed is widely traveled and has lectured In all sections of the United States. He carries a mefwaee of "A More Beautiful America" wherever he goes. He attempts to build up civic pride; create a desire for clean streets, well kept ardd, sightly lots, ar tistic buildings, beautiful homes and a general air of prosperity and well being. Mr. Weed will s;eak on A More Beautiful Salem," Illustrat ing his talk with over 100 stere optL"nn views showing by ex ample ? Jd ro.npar&on what has been done in oilier cities and what can he done for fialem. He covers every field of civic art and landscape gardening and at the cloi3; of the lecture the local ap plication of these subjects will be mentioned, and the particular needs of this community brought out. Daughters of the American Revolution, and several additional guests were entertain ed on Saturday at the government school at Chemawa by Mrs. Har wood Hall. During a brief busi ness meeting at Mrs. Hall's home early in the afternoon Chemeketa chapter announced the offer of two medalc-, one gold and one su rer, for the bent Indian legend written by any boy or girl in the ichool. This is the second time that such an award will be given sy the daughters as they conduct ed a similar contest 2 years ago. With Mrs. Hal) In charge and several faculty members acting as her aides, the group was taken for a complete tour of the build ings of the school with all meet ing In the senior girls practice house at the tea hour. During the time that tea was served a de lightful musical program was giv en consisting of numbers by the girls' octet, the boys' quartet. and solos by Anna I'eprabich and Ramond Haldane. Tho April meeting of the chap ter will be held at the country home of Mrs. Homer Oouley near Hopmcre. Mrs. Gouley will enter tain at a one o clock rincheon. Mrs. Merrill D. Ohllng enter taincd her bridge club at a pleas urable afternoon in her home on Thursday. High bridge scoro was won by Mrs. Claude stcusiori with consolation award going to Mrs. Merle Rosecrans. The guests were Mrs. Claudo Steueloff, Mrs. Merle Rosecrans, Mrs. Lewis Griffith, Mrs. Wallace Bonesteele, Mrs. Richard Slater, Mrs. Earle Dane and Mrs. Fred erick Deckebach. Because of the death of Mrs. Walter M. Pierce, wife of Gover nor Pierce, the Salem War Moth ers have postponed the silver tea which they had announced for to morrow at the home of Mrs. R. J Mend ricks. Mrs. E. Pattison entertained! the Book and Thimble club In her home tit Kingwood Heights one afternoon last week. The living rooms were attractively decked with wild currant and Oregon grape for the occasion. During the study period Mrs. Mary Beaver read an Interesting paper on laws and the ways of government in olden days. An open forum discussion fultowed with Mrs. Fattison answering the greatest number of puzzling ques tions correctly. In a clever cake contest staged during the social hour, under the direction of Mrs. M. Gehlhar, Mrs. Fred Kubin was the winner. Mrs. L. F. Brown as sisted the hostess during the tea hour. Special guests were Mrs. Eyre. Misa L. Eyre and Bobby and Danny Adams. Members of the club who were guests of Mrs. Pat tison were Mrs. Mary Beaver, Mrs. M. Gehlhar, Mrs. E. Man ning, Mrs. Fred Kubin, Mrs. George Grote, Mrs. L. F. Brown, Mrs. F. H. Bentley, Mrs. C. N. Hathaway and Mrs. C. I. Adams. Mrs. Charles Schwartz will be next club hostess. At this time Mrs. E. Manning and Mrs. Bent ley will he In charge of the pro gram. A. ft. held in the veterans room of the armory beginning at two o'clock. Thirteen Grand Army men have pascsed away during the past year and thirteen vacant chairs were placed in a semi-circle In the front of the room. On the back of each chair was bung wreath, the gift of the Women's Relief Corps, and on each chair was placed a bouquet of white flowers, the gift of Barbara Frietchie tent. Daughters of Vet erans. The main address, a tri bute to those who have parsed on, was given by Ronald Glover. Com mander Nelmyer of Sedgwick post led the services. Music tor the services was furnished by a group , of three singers of the Daughters of Vet erans quartet, Mrs. C. A. Arpke, Mrs, F. L. Waters and Mrs. C. A. The Willing Worker class of the First Christian church will sponsor a class in floral decorat ing under the uperviion of Mr. Monroe Gilbert on Tuesday after noons in the church parlor. On Saturday afternoon Mies Moore, assistant in tne Gilbert studios, will conduct a class in practical work in the methods taught in placing floral decoration.
