SATURDAY, MARCH 7, 1925 THE CAPITAL JOURNAL. SALEM, OREGON AGB 8SVEN E VOTE TO RETAIN PRESENT RULES Dallas, Or., March 7. Little in the wuy of fireworks took place Friday ut the uieeliug of the fulk Couuty Co-operative Prune Grow ers at which W. L. Taylor of Scotts Mills, president of the North Pacific Prune Exchange, was the principal speaker, The mutter of changing the op tional date of withdrawal from the association from March IS un til after the annual meeting In April of the North Pacific Ex change, which bad been advo cated, wad brought up but was voted down. The sentiment wan expressed that if any growers wished to withdraw, let them do so now, aud 12 they later felt in clined to return, the association would welcome them. Withdraw ing members, however, must settle in full their obligations to the ex change. Mr. Taylor, who has 66 acres of prunes, declared that he was satis fied with the prune exchange and felt that it would mean from 1 to 1H cents more this year to the growers, thau prices which wouM have prevailed if there had been no exchange. , R. H. Klpp spoke upon the co operative move, declaring that the association and exchange were ex erting a stabilizing effect on the market that benefits both the as sociation members and Independ ent growers as well. There has been some dissatisfac tion expressed among members of the local exchange, and the Dal tap unit has been designated as the one that has had the hardest sled ding, chiefly because of the fact that packing interests are center ed here. About 86 growers were out for . the meeting. The exchange has now paid 4 cents on the 1924 crop. Announcing Four New Books "The Skyrocket." a first novel by that well-known short-story writer, Adela Rogers St. Johns, is to be brought out by Cosmopolitan Book Corporation the last ot March. It is described as a spec tacular novel of the moTie lots. The author, a Los Angeles news paper woman, baa a vantage point ot observation and has made the most ot It In "The Skyrocket." Although herself very young, Mrs. St. Johns has been refwred to as 'mother confessor' and "trouble lady" for half the picture colony of Hollywood. "The Skyrocket" tells something ot what she knows ot the tears and heartaches ot the "gay" film folks. In thirty years of newspaper work even a man comes to know something authentic about women. As "idea editor" for a big New York daily, William Johnston has "met the ladies' under a variety ot trying and pleasant circum stances, and in a forthcoming book entitled ' These Women" he sets forth with pungent humor the re sult of his experience and obser vation. This book (which Is Mr. Johnston's twelfth, by the way) with its title stimulating to both masculine and feminine Interest, is specially recommended to hus bands with a grouch, wives with a grievance and young people of both sexes who are afraid to get married.
