Real Estate Activity In Salem During 1924 Better Than Average Activity In the Salem real es tate market during the year 1924 was above normal for tbe entire year, according to a letter received yesterday by tbe Salem Abstract company from the National Asso ciation of Heal Kit ate Board which has Just completed an index of real estate activity throughout the entire United States. Statistics for the Index were used from 41 cities In the United States thut were regarded aa typical. Salem was the only city chosen In Ore gon, tbe nearest other cities from which figures were taken beiog Seattle, Spokane and San Fran cisco. Portland is also contribut ing data, and 111 be Included in the Index announcements aa soon as their series has neen continued long enough to enable accurate calculations. Part of tbe letter reads as follows: "A detailed analysis of the Sa lem data shows that- the Index number for your city for each month of 1924 baa been consist ently above 100, In fact, the low oat point reached being 101 and the highest 123. This means that the market during any month of 1924 baa been better than the market for the average corre sponding month for the period of 1916-1923." In a bulletin which the asso ciation la sending all over the United States, special mention Is made of the new real estate lav parsed at the recent session of the Oregon state legislature. From a national standpoint the index of business activity started at 132 In tbe year 1924, soaring rapidly upward, reaching 183, or nearly 100 per cent above normal, late in February and gradually rising again toward the end of that month. Com pletely upsetting the dope, Ash land high school basketball team defeated the Med ford high school here last night by a score of 18 to 14, leading by one point at the end of the first half, and playing Med ford off her feet In the second.
