MONDAY, MARCH PERCE VETOES REGULATION DF FREAK TICKETS Governor Pierce put hi Ye to laturday on the Bailey bill which1 was designed to prevent the cir luiation ot freak campaign tick ti prior to election. In the words ot Senator Ritner, who ipoke (or the bill in the senate. It wan to prevent "yellow, green, pink, striped, pinto, koo koo and other ticket of that character." The bill required that persons putting out the tickets should register with county clerks so their identity might be known. H. B. 419, designed to add an other inspector of maitress and pillow output of factories was at io vetoed. In the veto message on the freak ticket prohibition bill the governor says in bie veto mes sage. "This bill is Intended to pre rent the publication, circulation and distribution of election tick its on or prior to election day. I fail to see the necessity of such a law. The friends of good govern ment, lacking the cohesive pow er ot tho selfish forces, often have no other method ot conveying their information to their friends except through a ticket publish ed and distributed prior to or on election day. I fail to see any wrong or crime that might be committed by the innocent circu lation of tickets endorsing cer tain candidates by certain groups of people. Washington, March 2. According to Information vealed here by persons in close touch with the Northwestern Electric company, the purchasing group includes the General Elec tric. A group of financiers head ed by A. C. Bcdtord of the Stand ard Oil company of New Jersey was said to h..ve furnished the capital. Holland Woodruff, Instructor at Franklin high school, Portland, was elected president of the association. The dances were given fur the benefit ot the Orchesus scholarship fund. The society, which Is one of a number of similar groups in other universities, sends each year one Oregon student to the Unver- sity of Wisconsin for a summer of study In Interpretative dancing.
