yesterday when Mrs. Page and
Mrs. Lee Canfield entertained.
The living room and dining
rooma of the Page home were

charming tea in the Y. W. rooms
yesterday. More than forty wo
men were present and enjoyed the
talk given by Miss Bromley dat
ing the afternoon on the history
of the association. Musical num
bers included, piano solos by Miss
Lean Medler, and violin numbers
by Miss Margaret Kaster.
Tea was uerved in the parlors
which were attractively decked
with spring flowers for the oc
casion, Mrs. Dan Fry, Jr., was in
charge of the tea table which
formed a charming picture with
violets, daffodils, yellow tulips
and yellow candles. Mrs. W. E.
Kirk poured.
Mrs. W. I. Staley Introduced
the members of the group to the
honor guest. In the receiving line

antly surprised one afternoon last
week when members of the Book
and Thimble club came to her
home for their meeting. Becaues
of ill health Mrs. Hathaway has

other meetings of the club.

Salem Woman's club, of which

The formal observance of
Founders' Day was a delightful
occasion on Monday evening
when Chapter AB of the P. E. 0
sisterhood entertained as their
guests the members of chapter G
t the home of Miss Dorothea
Steusloff on Court street. Assist

impersonated the seven girls who
rounded the sisterhood at Mt.
Pleasant, Iowa, on January 20,
1869. and each gave a sketch of
the life of the founder whom she
represented. Then in a lovely
ceremony five of the candles in
the lovely candlebra, which con
tamed seven glowing tapers, were
extinguished signifying the death
of five of the seven founders. The
two remaining lighted were left
in honor of the two founders yet
living.

Lena Belle Tartar, members of !
the hostess chapter, delighted the
group by singing a number of old
fashioned songs. Mrs. B. J. Miles
of chapter G, gave an interesting
account of the Founders' day
luncheon in Portland in January
when the Portland chapters were
hostesses to the other chapters of
the state. Mrs. T. E. McCroskey
gave a group of readings in an en
tertaining manner.
