FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1925 THE CAPITAL JOURNAL, SAI-EM, OREGON' PAGE FIVE Society and Club News Rosalia Kebr, Phone If N. W. Glee Club Well Received The Northwestern university rlee club, playing to a full houte at the Firet Metbodtet church last Bight, established its reputation among the bet-t college glee club to which the people of Salem have listened. The trend of the num bers used was distinctly high class, occasionally epiced with college 6onge of the popular typo. The program opened with a umber of 6onga tuiig by the whole club. "The Old Songs," "Old College Chums," "Firelight Song," and "Land of Mine" were ung In quick succession, ea?h winning hearty applause from the audience. John Elliott next gave two piano solos, much appreciat ed. The entire club, returning to the platform, earn? "Come Again Kwett Love," "The Long Day ClMca and "North western Stands in Her Foret." By far the outstanding voice of the group was that of Rollin K. l'eaee, baritone soloist and direc tor of the club. He Bang throe solos, "Within This Sacred Dwelling," "Dannie Deever" anj "America for Me," the laet being In response to a vigorous encore. Perhaps the best of all the en semble numbers was "lilow Uugle Blow," an intricate selection which the club rendered virtually to perfection.' A surprise was prung when a song written by John R. Site, Salem musician, was sung. The song, which was the only one cung by the club with the aid of music, was as well received as it the men had been practicing on It for weeks. An unusual feature occurred when the program was turned over to Cus Anderson, manager of the club, whose home is in Sa lem. Mr. Anderson took time to make a short speech to the audi ence, say frig, "I want you all to realize, as I do now. that you don't hare to leave Salem to get the best there is." The lafit numbers, sung by the entire club, were in slightly lighter vein than the others. "Push on Northwestern," "Friend Bhip" and "Don't Send my Boy to Harvard," were all college sonprs, the third being the most humor one one of the evening. Swing Along" and "The tJlclls of St. Mary's" next sung, were well received. The concert closed with "Go You Northwestern." at which all alumni ct Northwestern universi ty rose to their feet.
