TAKES POWER
FROM HANDS
OF GOVERNOR
Continued from Pace One)
ner, and carrying the emergency
clause.
If passed It will give the board
of control Immediate authority to
name an entirely new commis
sion, and will provide the way
out of the tangle created by Gov
ernor Pierce's attempt to remove
Dr. Tom Ross from the commis
sion.
What fate will befall the meas
ure after it has been passed by
both houses and has felt the edge
of the executive's axe, remains to
be seen, but friends of the bill
this morning expressed confi
dence that they will be able
to muster the two thirds needed
to override the veto. In the house
there is little cause to doubt that
their optimism is well founded,
but In the senate It ie another
matter. Their claims In the upper
house to the favorable vote ot 20
members are Berlously disputed
by the opposition, which claims
11 votes.
Action on the bill Is being close
ly watched, for It gives promise
of testing the strength of the gov
ernor in the senate, and snouid
the roll call reveal htm In con
trol of 11 rotes the result will
practically mean a deadlock that
will defeat all major legislation
during the session, for if defeat
ed on this measure, the anti-governor
forces have sufficient
strength in the senate to prevent
the enactment of whatever bills
they may see fit.
