done by deputy sheriffs with
whom Cleaver bad no connection.
As an Illustration, Sheriff Hul-
burt pointed out that during 1924
$1,890 was collected on liquor
fines. All of this is included in
Cleaver's report to the governor
but only $435 of it was the re
sult of raids staged by Cleaver's
men. The other was collected in
fines from offenders arrested by
sheriff's deputies.
