SALEM, UNABLE TO FIND BASKET, DEFEATED 1514 Several players and a big red headed boy by the name ot Seal lun came to Salem from the Franklin high school of Portland yeaterday evening and trimmed the Salem high school basketball team by a score or 10 to 14. Sa lem's inability to convert free throws coat them the game as tbey missed ten out ot twelve free throws while Franklin shut three out of their four chances. Satcm also missed enough easy field goals to more than double the score and they only played tin real ball that they are capable of ill the Ut a:x minutes of play. The score at the end of the bail stood 10 to 5 in .vor of the rial tuis. Scullan, the big red-headed player, shot three long shots In the firtU few minutes of play and he continued to find the hoop with ease although he had a little barJ luck in the lust half as several ut hlu shots went in and out agtin Scullon was by far the oustauding player of the Franklin team, ba lia fought bard and with only six minutes to pUy they started to play ball and tied the score at 13 all. A foul gave the visitors point and the lead, and Kpp.s, wh shot the basket was given another shot as Salem rooters refused to keep quiet. Kpps converted this and the Rcore stood 15 to 13 in favor of Franklin, Ash by shot one ot the two fouls converted by fau lem and ended the scoring for the evening. Lyons, who went In In stead ot Bob Draper, gave the vis itors several chances as the ball went Into the possession of Frank lin for too many steps. Franklin started several substitutes In the last half but when Salem came from behind the regulars were rushed into the battle again. Fab re of Portland, who la ret- ercciug the Portland city league games, was the official tor the game. The Franklin five refused to come unless Fabre referecd. The locals have a good team this year and with a little more experi ence will make the rest ot the teams get down and play. Kills. Ash by and Heenan starred for the locals with their fight. Franklin showed some ot the prettiest floor work seen here this season, but Halem was able to penetrate their defense with regularity, but nlH ed the easy shots. Salem will meet the McMinnville five on the local floor tomorrow night and a hard game in promised but Salem should win. A large delegation from Independence attended the gama to get a Una fire.
