HEAVY PRUNING TO SIZE CROP From now until the harvest sea son it depends upon the grower as to wnetner or not he will have a crop of large slzea in prune, or wnemer tne crop will be made ui of mall sizes from which he will receive little or no profit, accord Ing to Karl Pearcy, who has been through the orchards considerably the past two weeks on a prune nuying expedition for the Kobert C. Paulas company. "Prune buds are not as plenti ful on the trees as they should be," states Pearcy. "The buds are not fat or healthy. The conditions are very similar to those of the season 1M9-1920 when an extremely dry Mummer was followed by a severe winter. In fact It la generally conceded that the organization by tiapiro here of the Oron Growers asso ciation was one of the main step ping stones to hia successful cam paign throughout this country and Canada in which he has put over co-operative organizations covering products of every character. Two of his biggest organizing achieve ments following his work In Ore gon were the creation of the Am erican Tobacco growers and Am erican Cotton growers associations The American Wheat (Irowers co operative, a super-organization has been abjut the only co-operative or magnitude in the country not ciganized under Sapiro's guiding hand. That association failed. Sa piro is generally credited with hav in? amasficd a respectable sized fortune in this organization wuik. He is also legal council for sonic of th) largest co?operatlves In the Ll'Sill?8H. Kapiro la remembered here with distinctly different feelings by dif ferent elements. Some growers and fruit men still swear by him and declare that his form of co operative organization Is the only one that has ever proven success ful and that while he charged large fees the organizations created con sidered his knowleda and efforts worth it. BULLETIN ISSUED ON PLUM AND PRUNE CULTURE "Plum and Prune Growing In the Pacific States'' is the title of Karri ors bulletin 1372 published by thf? United States department of agriculture and recently put out. In its various forms the plum is more widely distributed through out the country than any otlwr tree fruit but the value of the plum crop In the United States is ex ceeded by the apple, the peach, the omn:,'e nnd tho grape. The great range of distribution of plum trees, however. Is mainly Incident to the great diversity of spocles. But of the commercial Industry, practi cally two-thirds of the plum and prune trees of the country are in the Pacific coast staes of Califor nia, Oregon, Washington and Idaho says this bulletin.
