TAP BIG AREA OF
- The EaMern & Western Lumber
company of Portland has contract
ed for the construction of 21 miles
of standard logging railroad from
Molalla, on the Willamette Valley
Southern railway, into the heart
of the lumber company's timber
holdings in the southern part of
Clackamas county, according to
recent announcement.
According to F. II, Ransom
manager of the timber company,
the net road will open up a tract
containing about 1,000,000,000
board feet of lumber. It is tne
plan of the company to bring the
logs to a dumping and rafting Bile
on the east bank of the Willamette
river from where they will be
flouted to the company mill a.
Portland. This mill, located at the
foot of Twenty-first street, hr.s
been equipped for electrical opera
tion and will be able to handle
1,000,600 feet ot loge each year.

will be required to build the new
logging road. Its connection wltii
the Willamette valley Southern

paying basis utter several yoars
in which It has not paid appreci
able dividends. The construction
bonds of the Willamette Valley
Southern lino are guaranteed by
