Columbia university Is expected (real ly to outweight Salem, but local fans are of the opinion that Boy Scouts of , Woodburn Hold Grand Conclave Woodburn, Or., Oct. 27. Wood burn Boy Scouts, troop 1, held a conclave at the armory last night, about 200 citizens attending. The boys, under Scoutmaster Achor, went through interesting exercises stunts and were then presented by Mrs. H. f. Butterfield with a flag in behalf of the Woman's club. A spirited address was delivered by Scout Commissioner Denton of Sa lem. Refreshments were served by the boys' mothers. A number were present from Salem. Doctor's Car Hits Curb In Avoiding Crash; None Hurt To avoid a crash with an auto mobile piloted by W. O. Arnold, Dr. R. E. Lee Stelner, head of the state hospital, yesterday turned his car into a curb at the corner of State and Fourteenth streets, according to the police report. Dr. Steiner, who was driving west on State street, saw the Arn old car suddenly appear from Fourteenth. Mr. Arnold, accord ing to Dr. Steiner, cut the corner in turning onto State. One of the wheels on the Steiner car was broken as it struck the curb. Arnold, according to the police, admitted that he cut the corner slightly. Spencer of Albany, chairman of the ' Lane county chapter, wel comed the visitors. Prone Crop Brings $1700. Sclo. Or.. Oct. 27. Mat Doubek owner of the Sclo prune grove, has just received a check for $1700 for the prunes raised on his 12-acre orchard near Sclo. In 1918 the crop brought more than $4000. Donald Rowe and H. M. Mitch ell, residents of Portland I wno were arrested last week end by Traffic Officer Miller Hayden on speeding charges, were granted additional time in which to ap pear in the police court.
