A Toklo, Sept. 21. That Japan may Improve her chances tor the exploitation of the great desert of North China, Toklo politicians are fostering a plan to bring the son of the living Buddha of Mon golia to Japan. Here in the friendly embraces of a great neighbor, the son of this powerful factor In Mongolian af fair may be taught regarding the history and achievements of Ja pan, and In this way the road to better understanding between Japan and the neighboring coun try of undeveloped wealth may be the better prepared. Such is the project. Coal and salt mines and one of the best pasture lands In the world are said to be ready for use in the land which until recently has been to some extent under the rule of Baron Ungern and the Living Buddha. Lately, the Kokuminto party and a group of experts ou Chinese affairs, so the Toklo press says, hare taken up the work of making possible the exploitation of Mon golia. Takeshi Inukal, president of the Kokuminto, Mitsurl Toyama, Hlroyukl Tanaka and other Chi nese experts, have Joined In or ganizing the Mongolian society. At its first session It was decided to send Mr. Tanalia, who was made BffeWieBt, to Mongolia to per suade the Living Buddha's son to come here. Good Horses And Riders To Feature Fair C. end, will coach the rooks this year. "Dad" Butler, varsity trainer, promises to have the men in the h.-t possible condition for the season. The team Is spending very little time on the fundamentals of the game. Thin work was covered In the spring training season. Real work Is on the program for the Beaver "Huskies." The might horse show In nectlon with the forthcoming state fair, la to present in show forma tion, some of the finest riding hones of the Northwest, as well as several other sections of the country. Oustanding will be the McCleave string from Victoria, B. C. Miss Doric McCleave, who prov ed to be one of the cleverest riders of last year's show, wil again be entered In the equestrian contest. She will shoy one of the beet educated high-sool horses In country, putting him through the usual paces of Bchooled "horses, in cluding dancing in time with music and several Bpectal stunts that Bo other horse does. The McCleave stable will also he represented In a brilliant jump ing stunt, that Is unique and sen sational. The Corinthian on Thursday night will be a new feature In ! Salem. This event calls tor six jumps, three of them being hurd les of timber and brush four feet high, one post and and rail jump I of four feet and a "pig pen", slxt- een feet square. The latter I proves the stumbling block to most horses. The Ideal performance Is ! to take the pifr pen at such a rate of speed that tho horse lands clearly In the middle of the in j closure and clears It at the next' IJtimD. Unless evfrpttHnf Is fig ured accurately tbe horse is forced (to take an extra jump in the pen. which landsh lm un the fence, or so close to the farther side that he cannot pet out clanly. Refus als and "spills" are a frequent In- ciaent or tne "pi; pen." The we.'ev Jump calls for the same hurdles, ercept that the last one is made to bimate hedge and ditch jump of about ten feet from the "take off" to the landing place. The water must be entire ly cleared to make a perfect score, no matter how well the hurdles have been taken. Probably the most thrilling of all the Jump to be seen at the Salem show J the table Jump in the Handy Hunter jumping class The last Jump in this event la a table with a bench on either side, with a dummy figure of a red coated soldier lying on the table. Both tbe nature of the Jump and the vivid coloring of the obstac kle are such that only the best mettled horses can be persuaded to make the attempt. Only one horse made the record at the Van couver, B. C, horse show last month. Five horses will be shown at Salem from the Skinner show sta bles of New York. Including a Jumper, three and tlve-galted sad dlers, a high -stepper and a great Harvester, standard-bred road ster, "Comeh" 18.2 hands in belgbth. The Skinner stables are known all over the horse show world. The same horses to be seen here have been shipped to horse shows In England three times. "Flash" the Jumper was beaten by but one horse In the world's championship high-Jumping contest in ondon. His record Is six feet, seven Inches.
