Goin Family Has Rennion in Jefferson Mrs. E. E. Fisher and son, Ar thur, were in Jefferson on Sun day to attend the family reunion of the Goin family. About forty five relatives were present from various parts of Oregon and Wash ington, as this was the first reun ion of the family for a number of years. It was held especially for the pleasure of Mrs. Eva Goin, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, who has spent the summer visiting with her sis ter, Mrs. Fisher, in Salem. Mrs. Goin plans to start her return trip on Monday. She is spending the week in Jefferson. Holt Family Reunites Sunday About seventy five members of the Holt family met at the grove in Jefferson on Sunday for their annual family reunion. Relatives were-present from Portland, As toria, Albany, Ashland, Spokane, Salem, Jefferson, Willamina and other Oregon and Washington towns. Seven members of the orig inal Holt family were present, U. G. Holt, of Salem, being one of these. Mrs. W. H. Nicholson, of Astoria, a sister of Mr. Holt, was present and her daughter, Mrs. Hans Riffling and two children. Others present from Salem were Grace Holt, Virginia Holt, Beryl Holt and Archie Holt. Return from Week at Pacific City Mrs. E. E. Fisher and son, Ar thur, Miss Mina Cook, Mrs. G. B. Goin, Miss Willa Huckesteln and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weltsey re turned on Saturday evening from Pacific City where they spent a week's vacation. They attended the Wild West show there on Sat urday and Sunday, With the wholesale price of cantaloupe down to three dollars per crate, there is no reason why the retail price per melon should be more than ten cents. Water melon has taken a drop on the wholesale price also and is now a cent and a half per pound, which ought to warrant a drop in the retail price as soon as the mer chants are rid of those on hand. Pacific and Washington prunes were offered on the market this morning at four and five cents a pound. They are the first prunes to be offered this season and are in very good condition. Yellow prunes were also offered for the first time this season at four cents. Nice local green peppers are selling for twenty five cents a pound. They are not very large, but at the pound price are very reasonable. Flour looks like it might take a slight rise within the next few days. The butter and egg prices have not changed but look uncertain. Miss Delong To Marry Tomorrow The wedding of Miss Evelvn Delong, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Delong, to Loren Basler, of Bremerton, Washington, will be solemnized tomorrow. Eighteen-Year-Old Girl Champ of Rhode Island Guest of Jefferson Relatives Mrs. G. B. Goin, sister of Mrs. R. E. Hiss Cory Visits Her Parents in Salem Miss Florence Cory, of Port land, spent the week end in Sa lem where she visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Cory. Make Trip Up Highway Mr. and Mrs. John Cubic and Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Donis return ed to Salem Monday morning fol lowing a week end trip up the highway. Return from Fort Stevens Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Chambers and Miss Dorothy Steusloff re turned yesterday from Fort Stev ens where they spent the week end. Spends Week With Parents Here Mrs. Lillian Cooley, of Port laud, is spending the week in Sa lem at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Goodin. Portland Woman Visits Her Mother Here Mrs. A. J. Lennon, of Portland, and three children are visiting in Salem at the home of Mrs. Len non's mother, Mrs. W. A. Liston. Miss Cook Goes To Boy Scout Camp Miss Mina Cook left yesterday morning for Oakridge where she will spend a week of her vaca tion at the boy scout camp. She will act as nurse for the boys dur- i ing her stay there. Spurgin's Vaults a Private Saloon Chicago, Aug. 8. With th trail of Warren C. Spurgin, miss ing president of the wrecked Michigan Avenue Trust company apparently lost in Mexico, federal authorities today turned atten tion to reports that the privaU vault ot Spurgin in the bank where J10.000 worth of liquor was found was in reality a "down town saloon" for wealthy business men. Slew Deer With Paddle. Chelsea, Mass., Aug. 9. Orrln Brown, 17 years old, of Revere, was arraigned in the Chelsea court charged with killing a deer by hit ting it over the head with a canoe paddle. His case was placed on file. Brown is alleged to have kill ed the deer when it swam into the Saugus river, where he was canoe ing, to escape a dog. Back from Ten Days at Newport Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Harding have returned from ten days spent at Newport where they were the guests of their sister and brother in law. Mr. and Mrs. William Mc- GUchrist, Jr. They also went on a fishing trip in the Silet coun try. Mrs. McGilchrist plans to return from the coast about the first of September. Mrs. Patterson Spends Week in Portland Mrs. Isaac Lee Patterson left this morning for Portland where she will spend the week. The name of Miss Glenna Col lett, the sensational 18-year-old golf player of Rhode Island, is on the tongue of practically every golf suthusiast in the country. She recently won the golf championship of Rhode Island, her home state In Portland to See "Way Down East" Mrs. Gertrude Robison Ross is spending the week in Portland, the guest of her sister, Mrs. G. A. Brandon. She went to see "Way Down East," showing this week at the Heilig. Mrs. S. S. East Baok from Long Trip Mrs. S. S. East returned Sun day from a long trip to Cincin nati, Ohio, and points in Kentucky and Missouri. She was accompan ied on her trip east by her daugh ter, Caroline, who remained in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She will attend some eastern school Hen Lars Banded Em. Tiffin, Ohio.
