Flood of Gold Pouring Into U.S. Breaks Records Washington, Aug. 4. Gold im ports amounting to $32,000,000 "daring the ten days ending July 20, reached the highest mark for any similar period In the past three months, according' to a statement Issued today by the fed eral reserve board. During tbe ten days ending April 10 the to tal was $4(1,000,000. Exports of gold during the see on d ten days of July, however, were only $551,762. Of the gold imported during the July period France sent in more than $16,000,000 worth, Great Hrltain over $7 000,000 and Brit ish India over $15,000,000, while the total gold exported included $33,367 sent to Canada, $437,465 to Mexico and $40,900 to Hong kong. The total gold Imported from January 1 to July 20 amounted to $391,435,343 as compared with ex ports of $3,446,279 during the samp period. Silver imports for the ten days amounted to $1,833,954 as com pared -with exports of $868,942 while for the half year period Im ports totalled $30,772,242 as com pared with exports of $21,297,887. Australia Out of Empire Plan London, Aug. 4. The Austral Ian government has withdrawn from the scheme of empire com munications adopted by tbe wire less committee of the imperial con ference but has promised to co operate with the other dominions in carrying out the plan adopted by the committee -to facilitate com munication and transmission of news reports between London and the dominion capitals. It was re ported last night. Premier Hughes wants direst communication between England and Australia, or at least, a sys tem with only one relay. The scheme contemplates four or five relays. He Intends to leave the Austra lian parliament free to adopt any scheme, controlled either private ly or by the stale, Australia un dertaking the financial responsi bility.
