Mrs. W. H. Davis left a few days ago for California where she will spend the winter. Eddie Scollard of Portland has been visiting his father, Jos Scol lard, who Is very ill. Chas. Bingham, in Salem the fore part of the week. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Austin have returned from a vacation trip to Rockaway. They have been absent several weeks. After spending several weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Scott in this city, Mrs. Wise and daughter have returned to their home In Eugene. S. B. Olsen and daughter are spending the week at Breitenbush Mr. and MrB. J. R. Landon have returned from a trip to Yellow stone park, and report having had a most pleasant vacation. The school board has just had constructed a fire escape on the West Side grade school, a work that is highly commended by ail citizens. Becker walked a couple of mile3 one night this week, reaching home at one a. m., because there was a shortage of gasoline in the tank. Mrs. F. B. Fox has been visit ing at the O. L. Davis home for a number of days. She left for her home in Montana the fore part of this week. One day last week Miss Margar et Wehrum met with the misfor tune to break both bones in her right arm. The injury was sustain ed by a fall. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Courtney are receiving a visit from the let ter's brother, Donald McNaughton of Tucson, Arieona. W. H. Mrs. J M. Lane, a resident of this city has Just completed a forty day fast during which time sue partook of no nourishment except a little orange and lemon juice and water. Mrs. Lane had been suffering with chronic stomach trouble for many years. She was advised to fast forty days. She lost 25 pounds in 1 Wi iho! Woodburn Boy Marries Red Cross Worker Woodburn, Sept. 17. Word was Received here a few days ago from SBalthnore, Mr., announcing the marriage of .Miss Margaret P. Wood of Baltimore, to C. W. Oath enrt ,a farmer living a few miles cast of here. The wedding culminates a ro mance which had its beginning at dump Holabird, Mr., during the war. Mrs. Oathout was a Red Cross wurfcer at the centers of the camp and Mr. Oathout was an enlisted man In the motor transport corps. The bride and groom are expect ed to arrive here soon and will 'awake their home on his farm a tew miles east of Woodburn.
