Miss Mitrjorle Melllnger, a soplio
more, has won for Salem High the Al
mack cup, which is presented yearly
by the Oregon Council of English.
Eacli year the State Composition Lea
gue offers this cup to the school
which produces the best estjay In the
"Know Oregon First" essay contest
John C, Almack,, of the University ot
Oregon, who has eharge of the con
test, la compiling a history of
Oregon from the facts presented. Is
the donor of the cup. Any student In
any high school In the state la eligible
to enter the contest. A number of stu
dent In thu Salem High School pre
sented themes to their Instructors,
and the best of these were Incorporat
ed with Miss Mellinger's esuay with
the result that the judges at Eugene
and Corvalll voted her the winner.

Lyman Jones, Lelleth Kuhn and
