New Bridge Asked
To Replace Old In
Silverton Suburb
Silverton, Or., Apr. 6. Numerous
citizens of Geiser's addition to Silver
ton appeared before the city council
at a meeting held last evening and
asked that body to rebuild the lower
bridge on Silver creek which was con
demned nearly two years ago and has
since been closed. . In the present con
dition of the structure residents of that
part of the ctiy are great inconven
ienced, and the lives of school childroi,
are endangered from the fact that they
pass over the railroad bridge two or
three times a day In going to and from
school. . .
Under provisions of Silverton's eld
and Inadequate city charter the coun
cil seems to find no method to pursuo
in a manner to relieve the serious sit
uation, and unless the taxpayers of the
city are willing to vote a special tax
for the construction of the bridge, con
ditions are not likely to be changed
very soon.
