THE DAILY CAPITAL JOURNAL, SALEM, OREGON, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31, 1919. PAGE TEN. CONFERENCE GAMES SET FOR TOMORROW HOLD BIG INTEREST PACIFIC UOAsT Anil flunm WEST CONFERENCE GAMES SET FOR SATURDAY. At Seattle University of Ore . gon vs. University of Wash ington. At Berkeley Oregon Agricul tural College vs. University of California. At Pullman University of Idaho vs. Washington State College. At Palo Alto Stanford TJni , verslty vs. St. Mary's College. Saturday's gridiron contests In the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate confer ence are to established at least one thing between what two teams is to lie the battle for championship honor. With Oregon Agricultural college stnd the University of California elim inated from the running by defeats 1 last week at the hands of Stanford and Washington State college, respectively, the race for honors now lies between W. S. C, University of Oregon, Un Verslty of Washington and Stanford, with the latter the weak sister of the quartet. By critics Stanford is not considered as a serious contender and the contest Is thereby narrowed to the three north west schools, and interest centers on the Oregon-Washington game, which will entertain Seattle fans tomorrow afternoon. The Eugene artists have a slight edge On the dope, but the 120 to 0 drubbing which the northerners handed out to Whitman college last Saturday has not Instilled any great amount of confidence in Coach "Shy" Huntington's Oregon lads. Washington State, rated on paper as the strongest team on the coast, should have little trouble in disposing of Ida ho, and secondary interest In to- row's game is, therefore, centered in the 0. A. C.-Callfornia battle at Berk eley. Here California is a slight favor ite, due to its performance in holding W. S. C. to two touchdowns last Sat urday. ... . MOTHER SHOOTS TWO CHILDREN Ai SELF Seattle, Wash., Oct. 81. Obsessed with a passion to end her earthly troubles and exterminate herself and children, Mrs. Winifred M. Graham, 24, shot her little boy, Billie, age 6, who died almost instantly, fired two bullets into the body of her daugh ter, Betty, aged 4, and then turned the gun on herself, at her home on .Thistle street shortly before 10 o'clock this morning. The little girl and the mother are in a hospital near death. Both are wounded in the stomach. The police were unable to get a statement from the mother, who lapsed into unconsciousness. i But they found a letter, addressed to the husband, which the police said revealed that Mrs. Graham had "lost her love" for her husband five years ago. Oregon And Aggie Babes To Play In Corvaliis Saturday Corvallls, Or., Oct. 31. Second only In interest to college football fans of the state to the annual gridiron classic beween the varsity teams of Oregon Agricultural college and the University of Oregon is the clash between the freshman elevens of the two institu tions, which is to take place here Sat urday -afternoon. A large delegation of Oregon packers are expected to ar rive with the Eugene team Saturday morning. C. H. Gram, state labor commis sioner, and Wm. A. Marshall, chair man of the industrial accident com mission, left this morning for Eu gene, Springfield and Wendling where they will open a state wide campaign in an effort to reduce accidents in industry. Films depicting preventable accidents in the logging industry are to be shown at mass meetings of men employed in lumber mills and logging camps. The films will be shown next week at meetings In vari ous towns in the Coos Bay country. Accompanying Gram and Marshall on the trip are W. R. Rasmussen of Chi cago, field secretary of the nntlonal safety council, and II. F.
