George M. Cannon was
on the train which was
wrecked yesterday on the
mountain grade west of La
Grande. The rails spread
and the baggage cars and
smoker went oû the grade
and fell on their sides. The
day coach plunged on over
them. Many were seri-
ously injured and one fatal-
ity. Mr. Cannon had been in
Portland with a shipment of
stock from the north end.
Minam lake became a
reservoir for the storage of
water for irrigation by the
construction of a 10-foot
dam last summer. The gate
was opened for the û rst time
this week to provide more
water in the Lostine district.
Wallowa Lake has a dam 27
feet high, and Aneroid lake
is to be dammed to hold
water for the electric com-
pany’s power plant.
The sheriû 9s oû ce added
one more still to their col-
lection of moonshine stills.
However, the operator saw
them coming and took to
his heels so that they were

Billy Dean Norman
May 16, 1932 - May 19, 2022
Billy Dean Norman was born May 16, 1932, in
Chadron, Nebraska, to Deward and Lynn Norman.
His parents moved around a lot during his youth. He
said being the new kid all the time had made him and
his brother, Jimmy, tough. They always had to oght to
prove they belonged.
Billy attended Valentine High School in Nebraska
where he played football and basketball and was part of
the band and choir. After graduation, he joined the Ma-
rine Corps. While in Korea, he was a radio relay man.
He was discharged after three years as a staff sergeant.
Upon leaving the service, Billy moved to California
and worked for Burke Rubber Company and IBM. It
was here he met Regina <Gina= Rosalie Bohlin. Gina9s
cousin was dating her best friend in nursing school and
he needed to ond a date for Gina. Billy took her to the
dance and soon they walked down the aisle as husband
and wife.
They had a son, Michael, and a daughter, Patricia,
before making a big move to Wallowa County, Oregon,
in 1960. They purchased land up the Lostine River and
went to work farming, while Gina worked in the hospi-
tal and later in Winding Waters Clinic. In 1962, they had
another son, Timothy.
Billy worked at the Wallowa mill and eventually
worked for Ratcliff9s Furniture, putting furniture to-
gether, oxing appliances and learning noor covering. He
continued to work for H&H Furniture when they took
over and later struck out on his own with a noor-laying
business. During the summers he coached Little League
baseball. It was an activity he enjoyed.
When he retired from noor-laying after Gina9s death
Billy enjoyed taking trips to Nebraska to see his rela-
tives and spending time with his grandchildren.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, brother
and wife. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Dora)
Norman and Timothy (Nickie) Norman; his daugh-
ter, Patricia (Gerrit) Jager; 11 grandchildren; and 26
great-grandchildren.
Billy died May 19, 2022. Military services will be
held at the Enterprise Cemetery on Aug. 13, 2022, at 10
a.m. Bollman Funeral Home of Enterprise is entrusted
with the arrangements.
Delwyn Donald Prince
March 18, 1966 - July 4, 2022
Delwyn Prince died on July
4, 2022, at the age of 56 while at
his residence in Milton-Freewater,
Oregon.
Delwyn is survived by his
daughter, Brittany Hofer; son-in-
law, Jeff Hofer; granddaughters,
Avery and Kimber Hofer; his
brother, Kenneth Prince; and
sisters, Patricia Prince, Teona
Golden and Chandra Cooper. He is predeceased by his
father, Don Prince; and mother, Maxine Prince.
Delwyn was born in Enterprise, Oregon, on March
18, 1966, and was raised in Wallowa, Oregon, where
he graduated high school. After graduation, Delwyn
worked for the Wallowa County Sheriff's Department
as a deputy.
He eventually moved to Stanoeld, Oregon, where
he worked at Hale Trucking and then to Woodpecker
Trucking in Pendleton, Oregon. Delwyn worked as a
rental manager at Woodpecker Trucking for the last 17
years.
He became a father to Brittany Prince on Sept. 27,
1990. He became a grandfather to Avery Hofer on July
4, 2016, and to Kimber Hofer on March 12, 2020. Being
a father and grandfather was one of Delwyn9s greatest
joys. Delwyn loved spending time with family, being
outdoors, riding horses and camping. Delwyn had
a love for animals and would often be found feeding
and caring for abandoned pets. His sense of humor and
witty personality will be missed and will continue to
bring laughter and memories forever. He will be deeply
missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
A memorial service is scheduled for Aug. 27, 2022,
at 1 p.m. at Emigrant Springs State Heritage Area,
65068 Old Oregon Trail, Meacham, Oregon 97859.
The family would like to invite all who knew Delwyn
to attend this celebration of life and the reception to
follow.
