VALLEY FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS
JOSEPH — The deadline is Sunday,
July 31, to submit artwork for the 40th
annual Wallowa Valley Festival of the
Arts. Submit entries via callforentry.org
or visit josephy.org. The festival is
Sept. 10-18.
Artwork categories are sculpture,
painting, drawing, printmaking,
photography and other (glass, jewelry,
ceramics, mixed media, etc.). Accepted
artists will be invited to participate in
the festival’s quick draw and plein air
painting events and provided with one
complementary ticket to Friday night’s
opening reception.
A SALTY ART CONTEST RETURNS
BAKER CITY — Whit Deschner has
revived the Great Salt Lick art show and
auction to happen Sept. 17 at Churchill
School, 3451 Broadway St. Viewing be-
gins at 5:30 p.m., and the auction starts at
6:30 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to submit salt
blocks that have been licked into artistic
forms by livestock or wildlife. Enter blocks
in advance — and get a replacement
block — at Oregon Trail Livestock Supply
in Baker City or Richland Feed and Seed.
Closer to the contest, entries can go to
Churchill School.

people’s choice, forgeries, most artisti-
cally licked block, best poem with a block
and best poem without a block.
All blocks will be auctioned with pro-
ceeds going to the OHSU Parkinson’s
Center of Oregon. Since it began in 2006,
this auction has raised $160,000. For

LA GRANDE — Art Center East will
host its 14th annual Handmade Holidays
Makers Market Nov. 18-19, and ven-
dor applications are accepted through
Tuesday, July 26. Find the application at

New this year to the market, VIP shop-
pers will be fi rst to browse the booths
for their holiday purchases from 3-4 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 18. VIP tickets are $25 per
person and only 50 are available. VIP tick-
ets must be purchased before Nov. 12 at
