Gail Dike
May 10, 1937 — Jan. 7, 2019
Gail Dike died January 7, 2019 at
her home in Enterprise, Oregon. She
was born May 10, 1937 to Pearl (Ivins)
Walker and LeGrande Walker in Ogden,
Utah.
She attended school for grades 1
and 2 in Ogden, then her family moved
to Reno, Nevada, where she attended
school in a 2-room country schoolhouse.
During fi rst grade, she spent six months
Gail Walker Dike
in bed with rheumatic fever.
At age 9 while riding a horse bareback,
the horse ran away with her and she fell off and fractured
her skull. After eight days in the hospital she was able to go
home where she spent another two weeks in bed.
After attending school through the 8th grade in the 2-room
school, she attended Reno High School with over 1,000 stu-
dents. She was involved in drama, dance and music as well
as sports — volleyball and basketball.
Gail graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo,
Utah, with a bachelor’s degree in speech therapy and music.
Upon attending BYU, she met her future husband, James
Alvin Dike on the fi rst day of freshman orientation. They
were later married on Sept. 10, 1958 in the Los Angeles
Temple in Los Angeles, California.
Jim and Gail had four children. Jim worked for the U.S.
Forest Service for 33 years during which time they relocated
frequently, about every 3-5 years to various towns in Idaho,
Nevada and Oregon. They retired in the beautiful Wallowa
Valley in Enterprise, Oregon, where she resided until the
present.
Gail passed away quietly at home from complications due
to diabetes. She is survived by her loving spouse of nearly 61
years, Jim and their four children and spouses: Two sons —
Tracy (Erika) of Shelton, WA, and Lindsey (Teri) of Klamath
Falls, OR. And two daughters — Leslyn (Matt) Rasmussen
of Corvallis, OR and Janelle (Corey) Wilcox of Bend, OR,
as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She had a voracious appetite for reading good books, and
a well-developed green thumb. She loved to grow house-
plants and outdoor fl ower gardens and could name over a
dozen fl owers by the age of 3. Besides her family, one of her
greatest loves was music. She taught piano lessons for more
than 30 years and was chorister and organist in her church
congregation for many years. She was a stay at home mom
for her four children.
Gail loved people and they loved her. She will be greatly
missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service was held on Jan. 12, 2019 at the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Enterprise,
Oregon.
