IN BRIEF
Students earn money for
grades from bank
Community Bank will again award stu-
dent-customers cash for good grades. The
Earn While You Learn Program, now in
its eighth year, awarded 704 students from
first to 12th grade in Eastern Oregon and
Southeast Washington $1 per top grade,
up to $50 annually per student, deposited
directly in their Youth Savings accounts.
In Wallowa County 59 students from
Joseph earned $1,448, 114 students in
Enterprise earned $2,826 and 36 students
in a total of Wallowa earned $730.
Top students from Wallowa have
earned more than $200 over the course
of the program, which began in 2011,
and (depending on how their grades are
recorded) could conceivably earn $600
throughout their academic career, accord-
ing to Leah Johnson, Marketing Manager
of Joseph Community Bank.
‘Every Kid in a Park’ pass
offered to fourth-graders
Fourth graders are invited to be part of
the Every Kid in a Park program offered

Kid in a Park is a youth initiative to get
all fourth-graders and their families to
experience our national parks by issuing
them a free pass for the school year.
Educators can download passes for
their students or students can get their
pass by signing up online at everykid-
inapark.gov and filling out a brief diary
about the things most enjoyed.
The pass admits all children under 16
and up to three adults to national parks
for free.
If the park charges a vehicle free, one
passenger vehicle gets in free. You can
come on bikes, too.
