jack sold Saturday evening and
“add ons” took the bid to $350.
That money goes into the bank
for the heifer scholarship
account. The entire field of
rock jack builders also pitched
in to build the stretch jack (a
larger style rock jack), which
sold for $1,350. That money
was passed on to the Del Stan-
ley family. Stanley sustained
injuries June 27 when an aneu-
rysm caused him to fall from
his horse and be dragged.

This year’s heifer scholar-
ship winners:
• $2,000 to Bailey Wearin,
daughter of Sarah and Sean
Wearin. Bailey is senior at
OSU this fall majoring in ag
business management. She
impressed the committee with
her plans for the future and
her knowledge of the beef
industry.
• $1,500 Ben Smallen,
son of Lisa and Rod Smallen.
Ben is a senior at OSU this
fall, studying food science
and technology and fermen-
tation. Ben is still on track to
become the next small town
beer master.
• $1,500 Casey Melville,
daughter of Kerry and Kevin
Melville. Casey is a freshman
at OSU majoring in crop and
soil science. She impressed
the committee with her farm-
ing experience and desire to
become an agronomist focus-
ing on crop consulting.
• $1,000 Sara Aschenbren-
ner, daughter of Cindy and
Chad, freshman at Walla Walla
Community College with dual
enrollment at Penn Foster Col-
lege studying for her vet tech
degree.

Scholarships:
Clancy Warnock of Imnaha never stops moving, even as he
casts a critical eye over his work so far. Warnock won the
World Champion Rock Jack building contest at the 2017
Stockgrowers Rodeo.
• $1,000 to Brooke Green-
shields, daughter of Jeni and
Randy Greenshields, entering
her second year of vet school
at OSU; $1,000 to Callie
Miller, daughter of Cheri and
Alan Miller, entering her third
year at OSU studying animal
science with a prevet option.
She is still on track to be a
large animal vet.
Winner of Honorary Cat-
tleman of the Year went to
John Williams and his wife
Eilene.
Winners of Cattleman of
the Year were actually a cat-
tle-family — a big portion of
the Warnock family: Charlie
and Debi Warnock, Joe and
Shari Warnock, and Dan and
Cynthia Warnock. A full story
