WALLOWA COUNTY EVENTS Wallowa County is home to a number of classically trained musicians who regularly work with orchestras across the northwest and have worked with national and interna- tional groups. For three days, Aug. 24-26, Wallowa County will have the opportunity to enjoy the company and music of those musicians and others. Bassoonist Mark Eubanks, oboist Lauren Guthridge, violinist Jeannie Wells Yablon- sky, French horn player Roger Burnett, clar- Ed Dixon inetist Laura Decluca, cellist Dr. Edward Dixon and pianist Dr. James Cook will per- form for the “Geography of Music” event. The main performance will be Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Enterprise Christian Church off Joseph Highway just out of Enterprise. The concert is a special multi-media pre- sentation of interwoven classical music, spoken word, and the visual arts, includ- ing real-time painting inspired by the artist’s impressions of the music. The program presents the music of Stra- vinsky, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach and an original composition by Eubanks. Artists are Mike Koloski and Sam Collett and the literary readings are by Mike Midlo. Activities begin with a reception set for 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at Josephy Center in Joseph. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and converse with artists, musicians Mark Eubanks and writers and view the Josephy Center’s current exhibit of photographs of the Snake River and Hells Canyon. The evening will include the perfor- mance of a short piece as a preview for Fri- day night’s concert. Fishtrap will host the fi nal event 10 a.m. Aug. 26 at the Coffi n House, 400 E. Grant St, Enterprise. This will be a moderated panel discussion by the visual, musical and literary artists exploring how place informs and inspires the creation of art. Admission is free. Refreshments will be provided Admission for the concert is $20 general, $15 for seniors and free for youth 18 and younger. Refreshments will be provided. The 18-year-old just competed in her last 4-H equestrian event at the Wallowa County Fair and came away with a number of ribbons. Cooney competed with her quarter horse, Carl. By the end of the competition, Cooney and her horse came away with grand champion showmanship and reserve grand championships in both English and Western equitation and champion in her other classes. Stockgrowers plan events Saturday at county fairgrounds Wallowa County Stockgrowers Associa- tion is planning a day of activities at the Wallowa County Fairgrounds Sat- urday, Aug. 19. Festivities begin with a 6:30 a.m. breakfast at Cloverleaf Hall, followed by a 7 a.m. business meeting.
