A2 Announcements wallowa.com O BITUARIES What’s Happening Patricia Ann Emmons Koch July 26, 1941 –– May 18, 2017 Patricia Ann Emmons Koch of Milton-Freewater passed away May 18, 2017, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla at age 75. She was born on July 26, 1941, in Joseph, Ore., to Ed and Lila Emmons. Pat grew up in Joseph, active in 4-H and enjoying many hours horse- back riding in the hills around her home in Prairie Creek. An accomplished rider, she was chosen Princess in the Chief Joseph Days court during her senior year. Pat gradu- ated from Joseph High School in 1960. She went on to earn her associate’s degree at Eastern Oregon State College in La- Grande, majoring in business. Eventually, Pat settled in Milton-Freewater where she met and married Jack Koch Aug. 30, 1975. They purchased the Oasis Supper Club on Stateline Road in 1989 and operated it for the next 17 years enlarging the restaurant to seat 250. During those years she was active in the Blue Mountain Riders. Up to the time of her death, she worked part-time as a notary public. Pat loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Victo- ria, British Columbia, Canada; Alaska, Hawaii and Mexico. Pat was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Lila Em- mons, grandson Jacob Gordon Butler and her husband Jack. Pat is survived by her brother, Terry (Kathy) Emmons, The Dalles, Ore.; son Marc Butler, Kennewick, WA, daugh- ter, Christine (Lanny Knopf) Koch, Milton Freewater, Ore., sons Matt (Heidi) Koch, Milton-Freewater; Mark (Beth) Ev- ans of North Pole, Alaska, John (Diana) Koch Jr. of Eugene, Thomas Koch of Seattle, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great grandchildren. There will be a memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater. In lieu of fl owers, contributions may be made in her name to St. Mary’s Cancer Center (Special Needs) or Walla Walla Community Hospice. Although the campsite is free, reservations will still include an $8 nonre- fundable transaction fee. Marr Pond Kids Fishing Event is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 3. Fish painting and other activities are organized for the small fry. The day in- cludes a free hot dog lunch. Trail users can join a work party at Salt Creek Summit on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. Sponsored by the Amer- ican Hiking Society. A full day of maintenance on trails used by horseback riders, cyclists, hikers, skiers and snowmobilers. U.S. Forest Service staff will provide most tools, but handsaws are in short supply, and volunteers should also bring work gloves, lunch, water, rain gear and sun protection.
