A2 Obituaries wallowa.com February 1, 2017 Wallowa County Chieftain Maiva Ilene Knotts July 17, 1929 - Oct. 26, 2016 Dahn Bernhard Bryant May 12, 1933 - January 26, 2017 Dema Cathrine Reel Nov. 24, 1927 - Jan. 19, 2017 Maiva Knotts, 87, passed away Oct. 26, 2016, in Medford Oregon, with family and loved ones by her side. Maiva was born in Wallowa to Irvin and Versillas (Sue) Parent. She attend- ed Bly High School and graduated in 1948. After high school she moved to Lostine to live with and help her great- aunt, Bertha. Shortly after her move to Lostine she met the love of her life, Raymond Knotts. They married March 14, 1950. During their marriage they had fi ve children, four boys and one girl. They spend their 16 years of married life on Bertha’s ranch that they inherited. She always said it was a lot of work, but those were the best days of her life. In fall 1966 her husband, Raymond, was killed in a gun ac- cident. In 1969, Maiva and her family moved to Central Point, Ore- gon, to be close to her parents and other family members. She purchased a house on 5 acres and it became her little mini ranch. She always enjoyed having animals and the chores that came along with it. In the early 1980s she sold the mini ranch to move in with her mother. Maiva later moved to Pahrump, Nevada, to take care of her aunt, later moving to McMinnville, Oregon. After her aunt’s death Maiva moved to Rogue River, Oregon, where she spend the rest of her years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Knotts, and three sons, Wayne, Richard and Bernard. She is survived by her brother Vern Parent and wife Pat;, son Clifford Knotts and wife Debbie; daughter Rayetta Knox and her husband Kim Knox; daughter in-law Cloey Knotts; grand- daughter, Britney Knotts; grandsons Raymond Kelley, Ryan, Tyler and Jason Knotts. She has three great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Maiva touched so many people’s lives in her 87 years and will be terribly missed. Graveside services with be held July 29, 2017, at the Lostine Cemetery. She will be buried alongside her husband, Raymond, and next to her sons, Richard and Bernard. Dahn Bernhard “Bren” Bryant died at his home in Wallowa at the age of 83. His life was fi lled with the things he loved most: baseball, including coaching women’s baseball teams, fi shing, hunting, family, travel and dancing. Bren was born to Duke and Jessie (Chandley) Bryant, the lone survivor of a twin birth in Alvarado, Texas. When he was 2-years old the family moved to Princeton, California, where he grew up with his three younger brothers. Bren worked for local farmers from the age of 12 until he graduated from Princeton High in 1953. After graduation, he was recruited to play baseball for the Army and served 2 years before injury ended his career. After leaving the Army he resided in San Mateo where he worked for the Post Offi ce. A career change to AAA Insurance as an adjuster took him to reside in Willows, Yuba City and Grass Valley, California, for 27 years. Upon retirement he moved to his brother’s ranch near Elgin, where he tree farmed from daylight till dark, his life’s passion. In 1988 he married Ruby (Roper) Hawkins and moved to Wal- lowa where he continued to tree farm. Together they traveled ex- tensively throughout the U.S. and Baja Mexico, dancing whenever and wherever there was an opportunity. Bren was preceded in death by his parents, baby sister Sandra, nephew Juvi, brother Rymun and stepson John Harvey. He is survived by his wife, Ruby; his stepson and daughter, Russell Hawkins and Lorena Hawkins; grandson Hunter Harvey; granddaughters Megan and Madison Hawkins; his brothers Mar- lon Bryant and Dwace (Lynda) Bryant; his nephew Rowy Bryant; niece Katherine Carradine; and special niece Lani (Ty) Russell and their daughters Jessie, Faith, Beulah and Haven. At his request there will be no services. His family will hold a celebration of life at his brother’s ranch near Elgin on Memorial Day weekend for family and friends. Dema Cathrine Reel, 89, of Enterprise passed away peaceful- ly at Wallowa Memorial Hospi- tal on Jan. 19, 2017, with family around her. Dema was born in Chuckey, Tennessee to Harrison and Gold- en (Hensley) Steele, the second of seven children. So that she could continue to attend school through the eighth grade, Dema moved in with her teacher, where she cooked, cleaned and cared for her teacher’s family. At the age of 16, she married Willie Franklin Testerman. To- gether they had three children, Stevie Franklin, Billie Wite and Brenda Dee. They later divorced, and Dema moved to California. She briefl y married Kenny Black, during their separation, he passed away. Dema claimed to have been a dealer at the tables in Las Vegas, although she never learned to play cards. In 1959, she met and married the love of her life, Wilbert Lee Reel. Together they had one child, Dennis John. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2009. At the age of 38, Dema decided to get a driver’s permit and her GED. She was fi nally able to fulfi ll her life ambition of becoming a nurse, graduating from nursing school in 1972 at the age of 45. Thereafter she worked and taught nursing until she retired and she and Wil moved to Wallowa County in 1994. Dema is survived by two brothers, Jim and Bobby, her sons, Stevie (Linda), Billie (Jill), Dennis (Pam) and daughter Brenda, 10 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. There will be a service on at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Bollman Funeral Home in Enterprise. He was born Jan. 16, 1948 to Elmo James Curry and Jean Cable in Enterprise. He is survived by his sister, Patri- cia Heatherwood and her com- panion James West of Home, Washington; brothers Jeff (Jane) Curry of Flora and Ben (Lynne) Curry of Joseph; neph- ews Chris Kingman of Seattle and David Curry of Flora; nieces Alison Weis of Lewiston, Ida- ho and Molly and Cece Curry of Joseph and his great nephew Lukas Weis . He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Jean Curry and a brother, Allen Curry. Mike enjoyed attending North End Grange and Liberty Grange functions with his family and home school programs and functions involving his niece Alison and nephew David. Mike also had special people in his circle in the Troy area, Darrell and Tammy Reynolds and Janet Crosby. as well as Dan- ny Benzel of Athena. He was born Oct. 2, 1948, to Harry C. and F. Mae (Hulburd) Stein in Enterprise. John was raised and graduated from school in Enterprise before joining the U.S. Army, and completed boot camp in Fort Lewis, Washington. While still in the Army he earned a degree in engineer equipment maintenance at Fort Belvoir, Virginia on Nov. 14, 1967. He later married and had two children, Clinton Edward and Ka- trini Elizabeth. He lived in Enterprise and worked at the Ford dealership. He then moved to the Portland area, where he worked for Pacifi c Scale for a number of years. He later moved to the Tri-Cities, where he worked for RC Cola, Masey Ferguson, farming and dove truck un- til he was injured in a work accident. In 2000, he moved to Caldwell, Idaho, to live with his daugh- ter and her husband, where he enjoyed walking the dogs, reading, helping with their farm animals and traveling. John was a member of the Enterprise Christian Church, a vol- unteer fi reman in Enterprise and a member of the Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry C. Stein. He is survived by his son, Clinton Stein; daughter, Katrini (and husband Joe) Burgin; sister Aleta (and her husband Skip) Bel- ville; his mother, F. Mae Hulse; uncles John Stein Jr., Warner (and Elaine) Stein, Don (and Erika) Stein, Dale (and Jean) Stein, Gail (and Veronica) Stein; aunts Phyllis Kollen and Jean Green; and nu- merous nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 11 .m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Nampa First Southern Baptist Church, 417 Almond St., Nampa, Idaho. Nancy Stubblefi eld Fausone, 73, died Jan. 24, 2017 in the Portland area, just three days shy of her 74th birthday, after a protracted illness. Se was born Jan. 27, 1943 to Russell and Flor- ence (McNall) Stubblefi eld in Enterprise, the sixth of their seven children. Her great-grandfather, Rob- ert Francis “Frank” Stubblefi eld is remembered as an early settler in Enterprise. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Fausone; and her son, Brent Fausone; a granddaughter, Myreashia Fausone, whom she raised; and two great granddaughters, Mhalika and Amaya Fau- sone; three sisters, Joan Rott of Winchester, Virginia, Margaret Hollenbeck of Los Angeles and Linda Bright of Joseph; sister in- law Jean Cook of Enterprise; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Shaun; brothers Raymond and Jim; and sister, Myrna Witherite.
